i think its because they don't like passports,

Thats a misconception. The reason most American's dont have a pass port is because our country is so freaken huge we dont need to leave to enjoy a vacation. Secondly if traveling by ship or land we can enter Canada and Mexico if you have a enhanced license which is a lot cheaper than a passport. Thirdly most of us could not afford to travel to the EU or ASIA for that matter. Most of us are what you would call poor.

a fed court order over rides state lvl stuff.

No it does not in all cases. The constitution is clear about state rights. Like I stated above. The interstate is federal property. All other roads are the property of the state, county and local municipality.

Really I am not sure why you are so sure that there is no way that these companies could reasonably make it difficult for children to get on social media and more importantly ban those that do somehow get on but are later found out.

For the same reason why DRM and copy protection on DVD's and Blurays dont stop people from pirating. Anything done digitally can be faked for the most part. Fake ID's do exist. Like stated above there are no databases that these companies can check an ID against.

Furthermore people steal social media accounts. My uncle had his hacked. The dip shit hacker even changed the picture to himself. We had to get in to the account and delete the whole account. If they cant stop hackers for stealing accounts they cant stop kids from making accounts.

their a fed court order to allow condemn bridges to be open..

Couldn't find anything about that. Even if that was the case. Uncle Sam only technically owns the interstate system, all other roads are under state control. We have had several bridges in our state that have closed for repairs and replace. I think we have had a couple even collapse.

You just need to make it hard enough. Also just having it restricted allows them to ban when people are found out for violation and you can do something about the social media usage. Really you are more so trying to dissuade the use rather than make it impossible. I mean you need to be 21 to drink but really determined kids still figure out ways around that too but I wouldn't say we should just get rid of the restriction.

The difference is the clerk looks at a physical ID, and to a certain extent they are trained to look for anything out of place on said ID and the picture has to match the individual who is purchasing the alcohol. A Facebook employee is not going to show up at your house to verify that ID. So that means submitting an ID to Social Media is fucking meaningless.

I dont think they really can unless the government creates a system for them to actually verify.

I've seen implementations that require you to take a picture of you and the ID. But even then it can be faked. I dont think there is a real way to solve this.

Well in the case of the US, you would need 50 individual states to agree to have a system, because we dont have a national ID system. Thats never going to happen, the states agreeing or a national ID system.

Honestly it would be fine if this verification only was required for social media over a certain size because the real issue is big social media websites. Small forums aren't what's really having a huge negative impact on kids.

But how would you verify the ID is genuine and that it belongs to that person?

wasn't that actually about common decency and re-confirmation of what is and is not appropriate in schools for young children along the lines of pornography.

Who decides what common decency is? That definition can change person to person, based on moral, ethics and religion.

But that leaves the question: why didn't they maintain the bridge as they should,

Cant speak for Pennsylvania. But here in Michigan roads are generally under county or local government control. Meaning the county or the local government has to maintain the road. Local governments especially out in the suburbs dont have the financial ability to maintain roads like that. A town south of where I live had to shut a bridge down for a few years before they could replace it. I know that we had residence complaining about roads in their neighborhood and the city basically said we can put the issue on the ballot to see if we can get funding. Promptly it was voted down. 40% to 60% of our residence are retired and poor, so they cant afford more property taxes.

Objectively, a lot of what the DoJ actually wants Apple to do is not act in a profit maximizing way. As long as Apple is beholden to investors, they're required to act in a profit maximizing way. If Apple could use its profits to own itself, no such constraint would exist-- they could do what they thought was best.

Well LEGALLY a publicly trade company is required to do what the shareholders say. Why? Because Stock = Equity which means the Investors your talking about are the ones who OWN Apple. So Apple LEGALLY has to do what the "Owners" of the business want them to do. The only time this doesn't apply is when a company is private.

The only way Apple would not be as beholden to shareholders is if Congress changed the laws. But its hard to get anything thru the old folks home theses days. Plus I think everyone is more worried about how they are going to fix the issue with the port of Baltimore and the missing bridge.

Yeah not everyone has an state ID, especially at that age. What are you suppose to do? Place the ID on a fucking scanner and send them a picture? ID's can be faked. So even then they have no way of knowing if its valid.

  12. While I do agree Social Media is a cesspool that should be burned down with fire. I just dont see how they are going to enforce this. The current age verification standards I have seen used on the Net are based on the honor system. Its kinda hard to check ID's on the internet.

Can I plug directly into ONT from the Unifi security gateway router, or do I need to go through the ISP(telus) provided modem/router thing?

Call Telus and find out. Here in the US Ive seen Fiber deployed two ways. Either they provide a Combo ONT/Router and its one box and you have to use theirs. OR they provide a standard ONT with the option to rent/buy a router and of course you can use your own.

In general, Internships are worth more than a college diploma. With community college, you're looking at spending 3-4 times less on a semester of tuition from CC versus a 4-year institution. Keep in mind loans are not the only option to pay for college, with scholarships and grants helping. States also tend to have programs to pay for tuition at a community college while the student only has to pay for the fees and books. Getting a part time job helps pay for college too if you didn't know that. Going into a humanities major is not worth it for anyone since they pay less than any STEM field will ever.

Let me put things in to perspective. I have $47,000 in Federal Loans currently. I have an associates and bachelors degree, I dont use either.  As a person part of the generation of "You need collage or you wont succeed in life". Im trying to let the OP know they need to know what they are getting in to. When I went to community collage, we didnt have the states providing shit. Financial AID said my parents made too much money and Id have to pay out of pocket. Not everyone gets scholarships which is where the loans come in.

Community collage is great, but associates degrees dont mean much in today's world. Many companies want a bachelors at least. Part time jobs dont pay enough.

Community college is always a great choice to start...that's where I went first and transferred to a four year institution. Significantly cheaper than if I directly went to a four year institution after high school.

Collage is becoming less necessary in some fields. Companies rather have real world experience. Even with community college, you may still have to take out loans. As someone who has student loan debt, unless you are going to be a doctor or something that pays, its not worth it.

For reference the current student loan debt in the US is $1.727 Trillion according to Google. With a majority being Federal Loans like I have.

I have visited the state of Colorado. One thing I will caution you, you need money to live out there. Its not cheap. My advice would be look at living expenses. Second piece of advice, try not to take too many student loans if you can help it. Cause student loan debt is no joke.

Pretty good responses so far, but I'm now aware of the issue of "where are you located". I'll give you a big hint without revealing it: The Great Basin.

Regardless where you are located in the US, if you live in a rural area you are screwed. DSL, Satellite and LTE/5G are the only options generally. Without knowing specifics of where you are located we can’t determine what providers are in the area. For example I live  near Detroit Metro Airport and the only wired provider that services our address is Comcast. So our only other option is T Mobile cellular internet as they are the only cellular provider who offers home internet to our address. Then there is satellite providers.

So that leaves showers as the biggest energy expenditure from myself, and even then, I’ve greatly cut down on the length of those

Take it you have an electric hot water heater. We have gas. Gas Water heater, gas stove, dryer and furnace. Natural gas is a lot cheaper than electricity. In the case of the stove and water heater can be used without electricity.

ut the DOJ looks just at the US market and calls Apple a “monopoly”.

The DOJ only has jurisdiction in the US's borders. They are not going to look at the Globalness of Apple because that doesn't mean jack shit to them. There job is to ensure the laws of the United States are being followed within the borders of the United States. The DOJ doesn't give a shit what Huawei is doing in China because the DOJ doesn't have power in China.

If the DOJ feels that Apple is a monopoly then they have the legal right and by law are required to act. Also at the end of the day Apple will get its day in court. To be honest, the DOJ has a shit track record with monopoly cases. In my OPINION this is a political ploy at most. Its an election year. Each side has to do things to get votes.

The last time I recall Anti Trust laws in the US actually working on a major company was in the 1980's when the Ma Bell was broken up. So again I dont really think Apple has much to worry about.
