  1. From what i have read, likely NO. I read something that newer wiring standards such as Arc Fault breakers can cause interference. Older wiring also causes issues. Electrical cabling is not designed for data, its a miricle that it even works at all in my opniion. Moca is the other option, but that assumes you have coax at both locations and the wiring in the apartment is half way decent. Plus there are caveats for the tech. Firstly needing a Moca filter on the main cable line coming in to the apartment to prevent the signal from leaving on to the ISP's network. Next wiring needs to be at least RG6 from what I have read. The adapters are expensive. The more moca devices on the network the slower the moca network gets.
  2. They are offering extended updates after EOL, but only for those who will pay for it. Furthermore they are working on Windows 12, at least that's been the rumor. Microsoft is not going to make the same mistake they made with Windows XP, but supporting it all those years.
  3. It comes down to a couple of things. If all you do is game on the machine, then running Win 10 after EOL is probably ok. I personally have upgraded my gaming machine to 11, BUT I also have a Mac book Pro and a Steam Deck, and gaming on Linux at least on the deck hasn't been a bad experience. My mom's machine doesn't meet Windows 11 requirements. Many say just by pass them, but with Microsoft's track record they will do something to make things painful in the future and future me doesn't want to have to deal with the BS. She will either learn Linux or she will buy a pre built or have me buy parts to build one.
  4. You have to pay for Plex to get this functionality. Not sure if they still offer it but the Life Time license was $119 when I bought it.
  5. Unfortunately checking the stats you will have to figure out on your own. We do NOT rent xfinity equipment. So the process on our cable modem is probably going to be different then their gateway. For me I go to 192.168.100.1 in a web browser. I dont think that will work for you.
  6. Thats not a modem. Firstly fiber doesn't use a modem, it uses a media converter. Secondly what you have their is a gateway. A Media converter / router. If you did NOT put the gateway in bridge mode and your using one of the EERO mesh devices as a router, you effectively have two routers in the mix. That means your double NAT'ed. You need to figure out how to put their gateway in to bridge mode, as I dont know if putting the EERO is not AP mode will work with Mesh mode.
  7. Could be an issue at a peering point. Might be a signal issue (signal marginal going in to the Xfinity gateway). Could be congestion on the Xfinity network. Could be physical damage of a cable or connection inside or outside the house. First thing Id do is check all the coax connections and sure they are firmly tight. Second thing Id do is reboot the Xfinity gateway. 3rd thing Id do check the signal stats and make sure they are with in spec. Compare signals to this
  8. Just dont buy any more of their games. I have several devs I wont buy from period.
  9. You have another wired provider in your area. We do not. Its either Comcast, Satellite or Cellular.
  10. Was paying $96 and now we are paying $66. We could get $10 off if we did auto pay, but my folks dont feel comfortable giving crapcast their banking info.
  11. My advice is to talk to your primary healthcare provider. They will have a better idea whats safe to put in to your body. At least in the US many of these "Supplements" are not regulated and you cant be 100% sure what they put in them and what they will do to you.
  12. Because they dont want to use the service while using Windows, Mac, and Linux. Most of the time using the service thru a web browser provides a lower quality. Because in their eyes using a computer means higher likelihood of you screen capturing the video and distributing it, basically they think you are a pirate.
  13. Except you missed the point of the post. Because some skilled trade jobs were off shored and a lot of people lost their jobs, Skilled trade jobs became the jobs that people didnt want. My dad sat me down and told me not to go in to the trades period. Collage was the only way. When people piss and moan about how much work on your car or work on your house costs they dont understand that we are short on the people who can do these jobs and in some cases people in these jobs get screwed over. Not to mention with all the boomers retiring thats going to be less people in the trades. Prices will continue to go up.
  14. Not sure how she would like Linux. The issue is, while I have some patience and experience with Linux, she does not. The other issue I just thought of, I dont think iTunes works for Linux, and she kinda needs iTunes for her iPod.
  15. My issue is I have no way to charge in my area. I have not seen one EV charger in my area outside of the ones that are Tesla chargers at the Meijers. There's no way I sitting for a 10s of minuets to hours charging a car in a public place. Furthermore is the expense. People are keeping cars longer because prices are stupid.
  16. No thats not how that works. Why cant you port forward? Is it an issue with access to the modem/router? Does your provider use CGNAT?
  17. You might not be able to get that info on the PC. You might have to log in to your providers website and see if they list it. My ISP has a data cap and they have our data usage listed online (not real time usage, takes up to 24 for usage to catch up).
  18. I know, not a big deal. I moved to Windows 11 on my system. My mom either will buy a new machine or switch to Linux.
  19. The company he worked for Flow is a major company when it comes to Water Jets and Robotics. When he worked for them he used to install machines. He got laid off back in 2006 from them, but again because of NAFTA (It was cheaper to be in Canada). He found a job at a smaller tool and die shop, but again its part of the trades and there are shortages as stated. Companies do a lot of this work in China because its cheaper, quality is shit, but its cheaper. My point still stands, NAFTA is a great part of why trades died here in Michigan. Because a lot f trade jobs were tied to the big 3. Personally Im indifferent when it comes to unions. But I think free trade is a scam. It only really benefits poorer countries by bringing them all the jobs, while benefiting corporations by giving them more profit.
  20. My dad was a tool and die maker. That is part of the trades and that was one of the jobs that was effected by NAFTA. When my dad worked for Flow, the plant was closed and they sent all the work to Canada, again NAFTA.
  21. This is pretty much standard practice for all companies in the US. If they piss me off or do stupid shit I will just close my account and move elsewhere.
  22. A few years back the stat was 800K of skilled trades jobs in Michigan will go unfilled. Skilled trades died in Michigan when Bill Clinton signed NAFTA in to law and we normalized trade with China. Because that sucking sound you heard was American Jobs going over seas. As a result our parents told us that the trades were not good jobs. Due to them mostly being tied to the auto industry and wages falling. So we were told go to school. Which has resulted in less people going in to the trades and massive amounts of student loan debt. Both Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs) and Mike Holmes (Canadian Contractor) have been talking about the shortages for literal years. The fact these companies are charging a fee to come out and look is an indication they have too much work. Further more Long Island is part of NYC, there is over 8 million people that live there. Thats a lot of potential for work. So these companies can pick and choose who they work for and can charge what ever they want because frankly the choice is pay them or do it yourself.
  23. Are you sure? Because with my Samsung TV and my mom's LG I had to tell the TV to use External speakers. It was buried in the audio menus, pretty much the option was use the built in speakers or use external.
  24. To be honest the things you mention dont bother me that bad. BUT the fact they are trying to push ads on us does. I HATE ads and I wont be a part of this stupidity. I generally turn off this type of bullshit. I do agree however that if there are things like Game Bar, you should be able to uninstall those features or at least disable them. As far as Office is concerned I wont sub to it, I have enough subs as it is. I use Google for my productivity needs. As far as the Microsoft account I think they need to make it easier for those who dont want to use one to create a local account. I like the MS account only because it stores my Windows key which makes installations easier. I hate that they try to push their browser on me. I have been using 3rd party browsers since Windows 98 SE. I currently use Firefox and Safari (iPhone) and they suit my needs. Im warry of any Chromium based browsers as Google is trying to take away my ability to prevent ads. Again I HATE Ads. As far as home not being able to connect to AD, this is been the standard forever. Back in the Windows 9x days you used Windows NT for business needs. During the XP days they moved to the Home vs Pro. Personally I think this is fine. Because they made the average consumer version of Windows cheaper, any time a product is for a "business" its just more expensive, it is what it is. As far as needing the MS account for upgrades, I do agree that they should be provide an update key or something to that nature for those who dont want to use MS accounts. This kinda pisses me off. My mom has a perfectly good PC, it works for her needs. But doesnt not have the right TPM module. So now she will have to upgrade come sometime next year. Sure I can hack Windows to make it work, but I dont want to have to troubleshoot it when Microsoft breaks it, or it has activation issues and what not. Overall Ive been really impressed of how well the Steam Deck works for gaming. Because I have a Macbook Pro and kinda like MacOS, its likely sometime in the future I may not have a Windows device.
  25. We just downgraded to 150/20 from 500/20. It was a $30 savings. Comcast already wants your first born child every month so giving them $30 less a month seemed like a good deal. The way I figured is it takes about 25 Mbps per 4K Netflix stream and we dont do any 4K content sooooooo, 150 Mbps should be enough for us. Sure my games download slower but I dont game that much anyway.
