  1. My dad's action cam that I need to return to him, my copy of The Witcher 3, not that's it's not supposed to be on the desk, but instead because it's not in my pile of games, an old Nokia Lumia 610 that I needed this week for a few things, numerous cables and bookletts because I decided to start cleaning up my desk a bit yesterday...
  2. The PC version of Skyrim basically needed mods to be any good...
  3. Well to be fair, it'd be rather rare in the job of an editor/camera operator to have to build a system. This seems to be more of case that because they were so busy they got the editors to do the vast amount of the work to save on time. EDIT - Also worth a mention is that the opposite applies. Linus works at a media production house and knows little about editing and camera work.
  4. Not a big fan of the song. As for closeted, yes, and I plan to maintain that until I can support myself.
  5. It seems to look like the shure, just mounted upside down. Otherwise I wouldn't a clue what it could be.
  6. Out of curiosity, could you link to one of there videos with in it, just to make sure they don't have different ones or something?
  7. I'm not 100% on it, but it looks like it's this one from Shure
  8. Picked up this thing today. Sort of expensive, but it's pretty good so far.
  9. I presume you mean the sort of country like music before the opening titles? If so, that's "Fringe Trimmed Boots" from the Youtube Audio Library.
  10. Probably not, as I'm (in theory) going to go into editing, and I doubt that a computer could reasonably cut video as well as a human could (although I suppose it could run through an edit decision list fairly well...)
  11. My TAFE uses a strange combination of machines. The old more general campus that I used to go to last year had in what I presume to be an audio engineering classroom (though I'm not entirely sure) 2011/09 era 27" iMacs with decent specs (16 gigs of ram, 1 TB HDD, Core 2 Duo/i7 depending on age), until mid way through the year replaced them with maxed out 2014 models. This year however, my class moved to the TAFE's art campus, and it's a lot less consistent. The classroom I'm in has a collection of 2008 24" iMacs with Core 2 duos, although they also have two class rooms with 2011 era iMacs. There's also a small room with a few Lenovo systems, and 1 or 2 older iMacs. Otherwise, the tafe generally uses/gives the staff Lenovo systems that are more in line with what my highschool uses, but I have also seen a few dells, an old cheese greater Mac Pro and a custom built PC around sometimes though.
  12. Unfortunately if you use USB you won't have lag free monitoring, however from what I've found the Focusrite interface you mentioned does have lag free monitoring on it. As for your idea involving the Y spliter, that may actually work, however I don't have anyways to test it so YMMV. As for sound reduction, as far as I know because that mic is a dynamic style mic it will reduce background sounds, and as such you shouldn't need the boom for reducing sound. That said, the boom arm may be useful for getting the mic closer to your mouth, which may make it sound somewhat better.
  13. It has one use. It gives apple some competition on iOS, so hopefully the apple watch will have to start sucking less.
  14. If Konami keeps things like this up, they might just get close to Ubisoft in terms of idiocy.
  15. While you did mention no HP products, if I'm perfectly honest the HP Stream is a pretty good deal in that price range. It has enough power for office work and web browsing, and very good battery life as well. Additionally, the HP bloatware on it is relatively simple to remove.
  16. I use the hardware in combination with OBS, and I've found that works probably the best, especially with the fact that shadowplay breaks Premiere often due to variable FPS.
  17. First things first, inform him that DaVinci Resolve is also available on windows, and that Final Cut Pro X is not industry grade, and as such really doesn't matter (no matter how much it's integrated with the OS/hardware).
  18. The entire Deus Ex Human Revolution soundtack, but in particular 'The Mole'.
  19. Yeah, I looked into them for my mobile a little while ago, they're not much better. They were starting plans around $40 where Optus and Vodafone were around $25-30. EDIT - I just looked it up, $55 is the starting price, and you don't even get unlimited calls.
  20. All my main sort of components are brand new, but my monitors were all used, and all of them work fine. But of course YMMV.
  21. Right, I believed that to be the case (it's the same here in Australia).
  22. Right, I didn't actually know about the charity things, although it makes sense. I'm personally of the belief that government should be involved in supporting lower socioeconomic groups (although I am from Australia, where that's a lot more of a thing, and charities seem to be involved more with overseas work).
  23. Right, and I understand this. I probably could have written that first part a little better and said that it was a lot more difficult, not impossible.
  24. Ok, but out of curiosity why should the "american dream" be unobtainable because someone happened not to win the birth lottery? Wouldn't it make more sense to provide support opportunities to lower socioeconomic groups so that they can be more productive and better support the US economy?
