  1. Again sure, but if your children want their own personal websites what are they going to do?
  2. The NAND of the iPhone, barring manufacturing defects and design flaws, will likely long outlast the life of device. You're unlikely to hit the endurance limit of the flash under regular use. For completeness iPhones use Kioxia NAND. It'll be hard for you to look up the endurance rating of flash itself, since Apple likes to have manufacturers create part numbers that only Apple uses. For example, the iPhone 12 64GB has part number KICM224AY4402TWNA12029.
  3. I mean you can consider options for gmail such as: FLast@gmail.com FirstL@gmail.com LastFirst@gmail.com LastF@gmail.com LFirst@gmail.com For domains, I think a family-wide domain is a bit weird. Like if you visited Last.com what should be there? On resumes and what not you want people to visit First.Last.com as a subdomain? I think everyone should get FirstLast.com or a variant individually.
  4. For $30 more you could get a 6600 XT for much better performance: https://www.newegg.com/asrock-radeon-rx-6600-xt-rx6600xt-cld-8g/p/N82E16814930063?Item=N82E16814930063 And they've been seen for even lower. For example, just $220 a month ago: https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/ylkutj/rx_6600_xt_21999/ Or for $30 less you could get the regular 6600. Both are more powerful than the 1080 and will cool better than that blower fan model. See what sales will be had this holiday season. If you must go Nvidia I highly recommend shopping around used. You could probably get a 3060/Ti for that price.
  5. On a legal level in accordance with DMCA, yes you are still pirating. The two events, buying the movie from iTunes and downloading a DRM-free copy from somewhere else, are independent of each other. A loose analogy would be for you to go to a store and buying the Blu-Ray and then going to a theater and watching the movie without paying. Now you might think that, since you've done your part and spent money so that the movie has gained some money, it justifies you having the ability to watch the movie on your own terms. That's up for debate. I don't think there are any platforms that sells movies from the major studios without any sort of DRM on it.

If you wanted good gaming performance, the 13600k is going to capture 99% of that experience for much less. If you wanted to go balls to the walls, you could fit in the 13900k in this build. Obv if you want to buy all from Memex it's gonna be slightly more expensive. The DDR5-6000 RAM is on sale right now so I would recommend getting that from Canada Computers, immediately. Faster and cheaper RAM than what you have. I think your 13700k will struggle using the 120mm cooler, so I bumped it up to 240mm. $220 for a 1TB 980 Pro is a very bad deal. I show here you can get 2TB of Gen 4 SSD storage for only $20 more. Can save $120 if you only want 1TB. You don't need a Z790 motherboard for Raptor Lake. Save a few bucks and get a decent Z690 motherboard. Nothing wrong with that Cooler Master PSU, but the RM850 is pretty reputable and is $50 cheaper. I recommend to avoid buying everything at one go if you have time this holiday season to shop for deals. There will likely be other deals that I have over looked. Keep an eye out on the bapcsalescanada subreddit and the RedFlagDeals forum.
  7. Those are AC coupling capacitors. In short they block out any DC signal that tries to go on the PCI-E data lines. These capacitors are in series with the traces, so because that capacitor has essentially be removed that trace is disconnected. I don't think the GPU will boot but you're welcome to try.
  8. Are you needing to transcode? It is weird that Plex would be having issues if you're just direct playing, suggesting something else is at play. I personally avoid transcoding whenever possible and just having media in a ready-to-direct-stream format.
  9. The card would be unlikely to boot without all three PCI-E 8-pin slots plugged in. However you'll be just fine using two cables that have 2x(6+2) PCI-E coming from your PSU. (i.e. one of the pigtails will not be plugged in).
  10. I bought the 14" MBP as a long time Windows laptop user. I will say that after experiencing the 120Hz ProMotion and Mini-LED display on it, it'll be hard to look at a 60FPS screen again. I also consume quite a bit of media on it, and it's also pretty fantastic for HDR content. The auto scaling of the screen refresh rate down to 24Hz when watching movies is fantastic and gives me great battery life. The GPU on it is actually quite powerful and can handle a variety of games, even through Parallels/CrossOver, and you can play a small handful of iOS/iPadOS only games through sideloading. Having a USB-C port on the right-side of the chassis has helped me quite a few times, just a nice to have. All that said, these are quite worth the premium over the M2 Air, for sure. The screen alone is worth the >$200 markup in my opinion. Vs the M1 Air is more challenging, if all you do is browse the web and light work. I think you could get away with just 8GB and 256GB, and leverage external storage in some way. My advice: Apple has a 15-day return period. Go buy a refurbished M1 Air, and see how it lives up to your expectations. (I say refurbished because I kinda feel bad buying a new product just so I can return it later). If it does go ahead and get yourself the M1 Air, if not then yeah wait for the next 14" Pros and re-evaluate then.
  11. Yes you can set up a WireGuard server through the Asus router software, import the config onto your phone, and access your local network remotely. However if you have a strongly dynamic IP, you will need to somehow get the public IP of your router if it changes. The router software should also have DDNS functionality to support this. Asus has articles for both of these: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1048280/ https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1011725/ Also note that you may need to update to the latest firmware to get Wireguard support. Seems it was added a few weeks ago via https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/yt9n5d/asus_zenwifi_pro_et12_firmware_update_for/
  12. It'll work but the performance will be pretty bad. For faster performance you will probably want something with the ASM2824, but it's pretty expensive.
  13. Well here are some examples for USB-only: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Ultra-Extension-Black/dp/B09TBLVNJQ/ https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-USB100-7-Port-USB-C-Expansion/dp/B09PNNJ421/r https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB-Hub-USB-Charging/dp/B07C69V6WZ/ (Type B) https://www.amazon.com/WAVLINK-Adapter-Ports-Charging-Windows/dp/B08P383RJP/ (also Type-B)
  14. I think the term that's closer to what you're looking for is a "dock". Many of these will have separate power adapters to power the hub. Here are some from Startech: https://www.startech.com/en-us/universal-laptop-docking-stations If you want a cheaper option, you can find used Lenovo or Dell docks, or maybe find a USB-C extension cable.
  15. Summary Nvidia is removing GameStream from their SHIELD devices in February 2023. They are recommending users to transition to Steam Link instead. Quotes My thoughts This is going to be a big annoyance to a many people that bought the Shield TV for both content consumption and gaming. Steam Link is good, but is not as good as GameStream, with in my experience higher latency and worse frametimes. The release from Nvidia only mentions the update is pushed to Shield devices, but that's not a good solution to miss out on other updates. The alternative is using Moonlight: https://moonlight-stream.org/ and if Nvidia eventually kills off GameStream via GeForce Experience, then there is also Sunshine: https://github.com/lizardbyte/sunshine I don't like how Nvidia is killing off features while they are still selling Shields. It's not like the device is EOL I cannot fathom that GameStream is costing them a lot to maintain. Relying on the community or other companies to deliver on product features feels really scummy. Sources https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5436/~/gamestream-end-of-service-notification https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-kills-off-gamestream-feature-on-shield-devices
  16. So Eufy is a sub-brand of Anker, not a subsidiary, so it is very likely that the same people that have created Eufy products have also had a hand on creating some Anker products. In my opinion, it appears that the issue is not that there is some intentional, hidden, malicious backdoor into the Eufy security cameras, but rather that company is not delivering on its privacy promises in its pursuit to deliver on the functional promises. With these two points in mind, imo I would say that you should feel comfortable using those webcams as long as you are not using Anker webcam software. i.e. let Zoom/Teams/Skype etc handle the webcam settings or use the software once to setup any persistent settings and remove it after.
  17. Most of the lower end X670 boards will give one PCI-E slot the full x16 bandwidth from the CPU and the other from the chipset, so you'll only find two x16 slots. The more expensive boards that have 3 more more slots will usually do x8/x8 from the CPU and then another x4 from the chipset. There's no easy way to tell except for going down the list of available motherboards and checking out the manuals. Edit: MSI and ASRock have a few x8/x8 MPG X670E CARBON WIFI MEG X670E ACE MEG X670E GODLIKE X670E Taichi
  18. The consideration only makes sense when you've already narrowed down your decision for Intel chips. i.e. all Zen 4 chips have them now, and although the Zen 3 APUs do have iGPUs they're kind of their own animal because the graphics are much stronger and the CPU performance is not comparable to their non-G counterparts. So I think you're asking, when does it make sense to get something like a 12100F over a 12100? The main reason is pretty much cost. Sometimes the price difference can be pretty significant, like upwards of $30 (12100F and 12100), and that $30 is a significant portion of the cost of the CPU (~25%), so you'll see more people at the lower budget range ignoring the 12100. At the higher end, like 13600K vs 13600KF, the difference is at the time of writing only $10. That's an easy cost to consume if you were eying such a CPU: Another tool for debugging and if you wanted to resell in the future, you tap into a larger portion of people and could potentially even recoup that cost initially. Who knows, you may want to use the iGPU for something else in the future, say a GPU-less office PC for a family member. The versatility of an iGPU is significant, and imo $10-20 is easily worth the cost.
  19. It's a day one launch so you bet there will be scalpers trying to make stock scarce. From AMD directly there will likely be a queue so just get there early as possible.
  20. Hard to say without knowing what headphones you have, but if your headphones does indeed have the 4-pole 3.5mm jack then yes you should get better quality than over bluetooth when recording.
  21. This is a limitation with Bluetooth headphones. See https://www.howtogeek.com/354321/why-bluetooth-headsets-are-terrible-on-windows-pcs/ I recommend maybe finding another way for you to record audio.
  22. re monitor: imo spend the extra couple of bucks and wait for the M27Q-P to be in stock. It has a RGB layout instead of BGR and should be better for text. Ryuikko gives a good build but I'd swap out the Kingston NV2 for something better, maybe a 2TB Kingston KC3000. There are posts on TPU that the NAND on these things can be QLC.
  23. Phoronix publishes a lot of benchmarks. Here is one for SVT-AV1: https://openbenchmarking.org/test/pts/svt-av1-2.6.0 TechPowerUp has some as well: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i9-13900k/16.html Obviously for consumer CPUs, the 13900k and 7950X are at the top of the stack. It's interesting to see them beat EPYC CPUs, and I suppose those will be limited by single core performance. Depends on how much you want to spend, and I guess how much you pay for power.
  24. What exactly is disconnecting? Keyboard + mouse? If that is the case I'd see about if you can get a cheap PCI-E USB controller from Amazon or something. If it doesn't work return it.
  25. If you need one right now, the 5600 is $135 on Newegg, and the 5700X dropped to $200 in the past. $150 for a 5600X when Black Friday and Boxing Day is close is not worth it imo. In fact if you can make it to a Microcenter, the 5800X is $200 USD: https://www.microcenter.com/product/630284/amd-ryzen-7-5800x-vermeer-38ghz-8-core-am4-boxed-processor-heatsink-not-included
