You sure you wouldn't rather have in ips panel over a TN?

Querty reacted to Glenwing in HBM is a 3D Stacked Memory That Promises 9 Faster Performance Than GDDR5. Will Be Featured in Pirate Islands AMD R9 390X & 380X Cards.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you do the math, HBM won't actually improve memory bandwidth by that much, right...?

Memory bandwidth is high or low relative to the memory capacity.  6GHz GDDR5 on a 256-bit bus gives you more than enough bandwidth... if you only have 1GB of VRAM.  If you have 16GB then it's not nearly enough.  So really we want to be looking at memory bandwidth per gigabyte, not just memory bandwidth as a standalone figure.  GDDR5 is usually around 7GHz these days, but for the sake of nicer numbers lets say you theoretically had 8GHz GDDR5, that would get you 32GBps per 32-bit GDDR5 bus, combine eight of those together and you get 256GBps on a total 256-bit bus, stick a 2Gbit GDDR5 chip (1/4 GB, standard size) at the end of each bus and you get your total of 2GB with 256GBps of memory bandwidth.  So, 128GBps per 1GB of VRAM, that seems to be a good balance based on cards we've seen so far.  Cards with doubled up memory like the 4GB GTX 680 couldn't actually make effective use of all their memory with only 192GBps of memory bandwidth (6GHz GDDR5).  (That being said Maxwell seems to have more efficient memory usage and is almost comfortable with 4GB on a 256-bit bus).

A single HBM chip on a 1024-bit bus will give you 1024Gbps, or 128GBps, 4x as much as a GDDR5 chip.  But since it is stacked DRAM, the density is also much higher, using either 4- or 8-layer stacks of those standard 2Gbit dies (see the pattern... 4x the bandwidth, but at minimum 4x the capacity too).  Each chip will have minimum 1GB of VRAM, so at most 128GBps per 1GB of VRAM (higher density chips would have a lower bandwidth/Gigabyte ratio).  It seems to me like HBM won't make much improvement on bandwidth per Gigabyte, being only equivalent to 8GHz GDDR5 128-bit per GB (which to be fair, is plenty of bandwidth), it just consolidates multiple dies into a single chip which is the real benefit; space saving.  4GB of VRAM needs only 4 chips as opposed to 16 on the R9 290X (or 8 on the GTX 980, NVIDIA started using 4Gbit chips) and I don't doubt the power savings.  I just don't think the bandwidth increase will be as big as people expect.  Yes the bandwidth goes up from 28GBps (7GHz GDDR5) to 128GBps, but the density also goes up 4x as much.  An HBM chip won't replace each GDDR5 chip, it will replace a group of four GDDR5 chips.  So the real increase is only from 112GBps to 128GBps.

Querty reacted to Glenwing in What are the pro and cons on AMVA+
In general, much better color than a typical TN panel, but not as good as a high-grade IPS panel. Black is much deeper than both TN and IPS. Response time is also good, although technically TN is still a little faster it doesn't really matter that much.  Viewing angles are quite good, although there can be some slight color shift when viewed at an angle, nothing nearly as bad as the large color changes and "negative" colors you get when looking at a TN panel from a sharp angle. Overally, VA is a good option.

I remember Linus said in his 1 million subscriber video that Luke and Edzel had changed their education plans to work with Linus. I had always wondered from the start of Linus Media Group if that was a permanent thing for those guys? I think it's really awesome that they did that for Linus, and I think the channel and team really wouldn't be the same without them!

It wouldn't be the same without any of them working there. Linus can't benchmark all of the new cards, edit all of the videos, do b-roll, manage sales and advertisement, and do 3-d rendering.

@Accursed Entity, I'm kind of in the same situation as you. I'm planning a build for this year or some time next year and I'd been trying to decide to go for either two of the ASUS PB238Q or two of the BenQ GW2765HT. At present I've currently have decided on the BenQ because of the fact that I get quite sore red eyes when using any monitor for a couple of hours. The fact that the BenQ is flicker-free (which greatly helps to reduce eyestrain) I thought it'd be good for me and effectively help reduce any eyestrain.
So, you could wait for reviews like me or jump right on it and purchase one. If you did it'd be quite helpful if you could do a review of it on this forum. But of course there's no pressure to do so. It is totally up to you though, whatever you feel comfortable with doing.

Well, several people do like BenQ monitors. They're not like AOC who is not really well known. I say go for it, just make sure wherever you buy it from has a good return policy so that if you are not satisfied you can easily return it and get your money back.

Oh yeah, that is one tricky and potentially dangerous device, that Flux Capacitor. It's very sensitive. Even one slight bump will erase you from existence.....unless you know how to use it. Not a lot of people do and as such several people that once existed no longer do. I never wanna go near one of those things. JK
