    Ikea desks?

It will last you no problem, just don't smash anything hard into the top as it is a honeycomb structure inside, very light, strong and cheap to make, but it does not handle impacts. Beside that it should be no issue, I cannot recall the last time I got any of them back for a quality related defect that did not include not installing the center leg and putting a lot of weight on it (as it will bed at that point). The ALEX units are quite functional and work well, again no issues I am aware of (and I would be). However as said above the drawers are not perfectly aligned, but fairly decent non the less, just don't put a ton of weight on them when extended they are not designed for that, but anything normal that fits inside should be more than fine.
  2. So yeah the Irony I just gave advice to some one on IKEA products as I work there and here I am asking for advice on a new office/gaming chair. However the simple fact is that no matter how much I love the MARKUS chairs they have a critical flaw which is rather limited to a few people including myself: The seat is not high enough. The MARKUS tops out at 57cm in seat height and with my unique combination of being both tall at 1.98m and having relatively long legs to boot it doesn't cut it. So I am looking for a replacement chair that has a seat height of no less than 60cm and is available in the EU for a price no higher than 500EUR and ideally a bit less. Beside the height I prefer mesh and fabrics over leather and fake lather because I get hot really easily so leather and the likes get uncomfortable during longer sessions. I have been browsing around a lot myself, but so far I have not been able to find anything that matches what I need so here I hoping perhaps some one of you has the right solution or idea or direction to look at. Thanks in advance.

    Ikea Desk

Alright here is my take as someone who works at IKEA as a product Quality specialist: Any legs will go with any table table top, however you have to keep in mind that the ADILS legs are not height adjustable (all they have a bottom cap with a screw to level it out) so you have 1 height and that is it. Depending on the time you spend at your desk you might want to be able to adjust it to be at the correct ergonomic height for you. The GERTON legs can provide this however at half the price (here locally) you can also get the OLOV legs which preform the same function (and use the same system to adjust the height, fair warning if you loosen them to much you might have to pull them out adjust them and push them back in as it is a friction system. Not to worry it is plenty strong my 100kg fat ass can sit down on 1 leg and it won't move). Table top wise the LINNMON are indeed hollow with a carton hex filling and are rated up to 50kg of load (as are all desk tops). The fact is that the construction can handle a lot of load, but if you ever get angry and smash your fist down away from the edge you are likely to make a good dent in it as it cannot handle impact. So if that has you worried I woudl advise the KLIMPEN over the GERTON for the simple reason that the GERTON being wood needs maintenance and does not clean easily and can stain, it does however looks better Long story short here are two options:: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90353747/ + http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30264301/ Which brings you at a total of 130USD so directly on budget. Or if you are willing to loose 10cm in width, but upgrade quality wise a fair bit: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79006358/ Which is 160 USD so a little above, but I would say it is worth it.
  4. I have seen a lot of odd bugs, but this one seems to confuse the heck out of me. The case is as follows I want to read a PDF file from the internet so it downloads it to a temp folder and normally opens it up in a tap and you go ahead a read it. However when I do this Cyberfox (X64 version 48 to 50 all the same issue) starts opening up multiple taps a second endlessly, even when you close it it will pop up and do it again and only when you close that one it finally quits doing it. It really baffles me and I cannot seem to figure out what is causing it so here is my call for help (and I bet it is something obvious I just overlooked, but really whatever it takes even if it is a humble pill).
  5. Slow and steady improvement, still 2017 will be key they need to make that year their comeback because face it there is a lot of debt still and they really could do with clearing that out and leaving room to invest. I am hoping that they can truly deal some blows to both Intel and Nvidia to wack those two into a bit more of a humble state (one can dream right?).
  6. 140k units is damn near nothing when you want to get devs to make games for it and all. Really if VR was to be deemed a success this year you would need to be talking about millions of units (vive+Oculus) and you would need to see a ramp up next year even more. The high costs of VR + the fact that so many people just can't use it due numerous issues is a problem to get the tech truly rolling in gaming. Personally if I could buy a unit I would, but I would take a week off to try it a lot to ensure I do not get any issues seeing I am prone to migraines for example and no game is worth those (also why I hate low fps in first person games) What is going to be key is reducing the costs, making them easier to use requiring less space, but above all keep the demands down on hardware, allow the market to catch up a bit and in 2 years time if you have a 200 USD set then you can see some movement in the VR space. Until then it will just be to niece. I just hope they do that and keep it alive, it is promising, just right now it is early adopter tech that will need to be handled very carefully for it not to go the way of the 3D.
  7. Is it stupid and questionable from the Employees to do this? Yes Is it stupid to leave private information on a device you hand over to some one else who can freely access it? Yes The employees should have done the right thing and inform the customers about the risk they take with their private information and the customers themselves should not have given away a device with said information on there. Really these are the same people that whine about being 'hacked' when their password1234 on their *insert cloud storage name here* was guessed within 0.1seconds by a bot. Anyhow I would have fired them right away to, you gotta respect the customer's data (not necessarily the customers depending on how they behave) and my brand reputation.
  8. I knew from the moment that they said no SQ 42 to be shown because it is not quite up the final polish they wanted, that this news would make the headlines and nothing else. While if you actually look at what is being shown and above all what they have achieved this last year it is staggering. From the changes to the engines, streamline production and crafting new tools they need to make the world. With all of that in place and working now, production can be ramped up big time and I think that we will see a lot more coming and faster as time goes on. Sure things have been delayed, but frankly considering the work they have done (including building up 4 teams in 4 offices) I am pretty darn impressed. Yes I will be biased of course, but when I see what is there and when I talk to the people who work there I cannot help but being positive.
  9. This so much Make some impossible password, note it down and set it to forward and just put down a signature informing everyone of your new email. As for sub services who cares those are just glorified spam anyway That all said and done 500mil account hacked in 2014 and coming out with it now is like....
  10. If it was before than that is a reasonable number and not unlike what I have seen before. If not than well companies like Samsung have plenty of lawyers on payroll bit of a waste not to use them if the case goes on
  11. This covers it, point is you have to proof as the company that you did enough to make him aware of the issue and recall. However in most places the law is clear on that so if they followed that they should be fine. If it was before the recall the company simply has to pay up the reasonable sum in settlement.
  12. Good people in charge who understand that a quality product just lasts longer. Sure they make TONS of cheap stuff, but they still seem to make cheap stuff as good as they can for the money. Honesty anything like keyboards and mice if I am unsure I buy Logitech because it is hard to buy something bad that way.
  13. Damn it I missed on getting sued by those idiots. Would have been so much fun
  14. Yes dyslexia and midnight make not for the best of typing, edited the main post
  15. Now this is some interesting news for those of us who are into flight or space sims, Logitech has bought the Saitek brand name and flight and space simulation product line from Mad Catz: http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/3073495 It is no secret to many that Saitek has been in some trouble lately and most of it is due their own fault as their product line just was riddled with poor quality and poor quality control. RMA rates on things like the X55 where through the roof and the design was to blame. Many longed for the old 'glory' days of saitek when they truly made some excellent equipment like my own all time favorite X65-F. I think I will be amongst many who hope that Logitech can kick things back into shape and come up with some truly solid products again, they have the capital and know how in house to do so and hence I am hopeful. I really hope they make a new force sensing HOTAS as well, I know they are not for everyone, but once you get used to it, you can't go back There is also the small side line matter of the Star Citizen HOTAS(es) of course and time will tell whether or not those will still happen.
  16. Can o worms for sure, but on the other hand adds are needed to keep stuff running. But yeah are they also going to check them for mallware cause that is to me a far greater issue.
  17. I know the PC master race joke is old, but things like this make it very difficult not to use it and laugh. They are afraid to loose control which is rather typical and from their point of view I can even understand, but truly it is a stupid move, but it won't be the end of them.
  18. If that is the plan than just wait If you need it for other things just get the cheapest 480/1060 you can get your hands on. a GPU upgrade is simple enough and if you ensure you have a good enough CPU etc to handle it things will be fine down the road. Look at how many people still run Sandy bridge CPUs and do just fine. Also if you want to get things cheaper don't be afraid to buy second hand, I know people don't like it, but truly it can save you quite some money and the components will be just fine. My last 6-7 GPUS have all been second hand units without any issues
  19. Which is why I read a bit more once in a while when bored. It takes time and money a lot of money to do the kind of digging and investigation to find out about these deals and get to know all the ins and outs. The EU has neither unlimited time or money to do so, hence they go after the targets that earn the biggest payout and/or gain the most PR support. The EU is not all that popular at the moment so they need anything they can get. Apple's case here was not even all that complicated, the structure was quite simple in setup as where the agreements, there are a lot of companies who have far more complex setups and even at times when they finally figure out how it works, they still can't figure out if it is legal or not and if not fully legal which parts are not legal? It is a giant mess and it will only get worse, because believe me Apple is not just suddenly going to say "Alright you caught us we will pay everything from now." Of course not they will go and figure out new ways to deal with paying as little taxes as possible.

  21. Small to none considering everyone is being watched and no one is allowed to make a real sweet deal. Also it is likely they already are in a few, money tends to follow rather complicated paths to avoid as much taxation on all points as they can. Why do you think so many companies have 'HQs' in my country the Netherlands. Problem is these are all political moves, companies that operate outside of public view just keep on going cause no one gives a fuck. Companies like Apple and other retailers, big IT companies operate in the public eye and hence are much more interesting targets to sway public opinion.
  22. Sorry for the bad link. Ever since something fed up during my latest Cyberfox install I lost all my settings and it seemed that no script was blocking linus so that is why the link went wrong. Anyhow link should work now.
  23. See the news and explanations over here: http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-16-2923_en.htm Let's be honest this is hardly surprising and unlikely to be the first case of this kind. Corporate tax evasion and special agreements are being put more and more under the light and while in this case it was deemed illegal a lot of times it is done in a legitimate way. The real question is of course in my opinion how Ethical is it to dodge taxes on scales like these. There is also the little fact that Apple made an agreement with Ireland and yet Apple gets punished and Ireland gets the cash. It also seems unlikely that apple will leave because no matter where you are in the EU you are now watched like an hawk and getting such sweat deals (with sour aftertaste) are unlikely. Now it will be without question that they will launch an appeal, after all they are paying their lawyers anyway and 13 billion is still a decent chunk of change even for Apple. I do wonder what the ripple effect of this will be however, seeing I work for a company that is very creative and I know a few people working for other companies which are creative. Is this going to stand on it's own or will it be the start of an avalanche for more cases? In my opinion a nation should be able to compete with other nations, I believe that governments should run more with a business mindset and this to me is part of it. However as it stands with the EU it is a giant mess of things which are and are not allowed and it seems no one really knows which what how of anything atm. Time will tell I guess.
  24. Dan is fucking amazing, great talking to him during the days at gamescom. Hope he didn't mind me poking his brain so much whenever he escaped crowds for a moment. But yeah with ques of 1.5 to 2.5 hours it was great helping out once again this year.
  25. Those prices damn didn't know mobile data was so expensive in the US. Anyhow there is something like fair use. if some one would be downloading like 500gb a month over a wireless plan than well yeah that would be excessive. Anyhow without any numbers it is hard to say if this is a move I can back or not.
