After reading the text this doesn't seem so bad, it is still bad, but not as horrible as it sounds. While the method was illegal I would say it was probably best for the kid to "get adopted", ghetto adoption method or not. Considering how the local police/government has let the child be with the other family I would at least assume he has decent conditions there.

Not necessarily, if you had 8GB then a demanding game might get you close to the max. At that point the OS will start using pagefiling more, this could impact performance and/or loading times. Currently I am not playing any games, I have chrome open with 3 tabs + 1 "new tab" (not on a website). Besides that I have steam and Avast running. I have 3.7GB of RAM used. If the game uses ~4GB then I would be at ~7.7GB. If I had 8GB of RAM I would have a bit of an issue at that point. They might have just went with 16GB because the next most common amount of RAM users have is 16GB.

ValvE's VR performance test - is your PC ready for VR?
UnknownEngineer replied to zMeul's topic in Tech News
Seeing as OP has a GTX 970 used in it I can pretty safely say I don't need to download this test. Same GPU but otherwise my system is better. -
IBM, Bandai Namco to make VR MMO out of Sword Art Online

A spoiler will probably fix it entirely, now I just need to figure out how to unblock it... -
Lenovo announces new laptops with AMD GPUs.... and there's a twist
UnknownEngineer replied to DocSwag's topic in Tech News
Wouldn't be the first time laptop cards have been given the same names as newer cards. Nvidia did this with the 800 series IIRC. -

Could be re-brands IMO. -

FYI, your sig is broke AF. I couldn't click on any of the voting buttons until I hid it. -
Are you getting some other sale ontop with that price? From their website it says 319.99$ for me, a small difference, but notable. The non K skylake is the same price as the 5820K, the 6700K is more expensive. For a better and similarly priced X99 build OP would need to get the 5820K from microcenter, and the mobo from elsewhere, I couldn't find a mobo cheaper that 169,99$, and that's a refurb mobo. For that price you can get a mid/high end Z170 mobo. The 5820k is a better deal if you are buying from microcenter, but the mobo's, at least from what I could see, are not.
-
Microcenter is an "if" though, considering how the intended prices of the skylake CPU's and mobo's are about 40$ lower it should be easier to find a store with cheaper skylake parts instead. Unless said store still has largely inflated skylake prices because they bough a massive shipment when they released.
-
Most of the time it does cost more, not to mention that the mobo's are more expensive most of the time. He would need to get a lower end mobo for the 5820k.

An i7 would make those things faster, if you have the money, and know that you will not just drop editing and rendering because you are experimenting, then go for the i7. It also has a 200MHz higher turbo clock. EDIT: Fucking avast popup came up as I was typing, pressed "y" and it restarted my PC. Anyhow, you may have a non K CPU, but do consider a proper cooler for it. The stock cooler that comes with the non K skylake's isn't that good AFAIK. The good intel cooler is sold separately IIRC.

Upgrading my skylake system, need advice
UnknownEngineer replied to UnknownEngineer's topic in New Builds and Planning
When it comes to loading times on my HDD, I am not happy. My SSD is just fine most of the time, It just doesn't have the capacity. I have noticed the SSD being slow lately though, ever since going to Win 10. (opening file explorer takes some time for an example) About the 110i GTX. I don't remember if I checked the 100i or 110i for compatability with a bitfenix ghost. Does the 110i fit? I am searching for conlusive evidence ATM, but not finding any. -
Not entirely sure if this is the correct sub for PC upgrades, but here goes. So I am planning on buying a new PSU and CPU cooler for my current system. Total budget for the whole thing is ~500€, I'll break this down in details as I go, but all in all for my storage upgrade the budget is ~200€. Redtext is for questions I want answered. Things to note: I live in Finland, things cost allot. My combined budget for the PSU and cooler was 300€, and I have already selected those two parts. Cooler I am planning on is a Corsair Hydro H110i GTX (145€) Is this a good enough cooler for a 6700K? I do want to OC. PSU is EVGA 750W SuperNOVA 750 G2 80+ gold (112€) I am sure this is just fine, it's EVGA FFS. My current specs are in my sig. I was considering populating my m.2 slot, so I looked around and found this: Samsung 256GB 950 PRO SSD, M.2, NVMe, 2200/900 MB/s (199.90€) I could put my OS on this, and have quite a few games on it too. Not to mention the 128GB SSD I have already. Is a 256GB m.2 SSD worth that price? It is stupid fast no matter how I look at it. I was originally planning on getting a HDD to replace my 3TB seagate barracuda green(?), I got this disk at a recycling centrer I worked part time in, lets just say all odds are stacked against it being usable. But it still somehow is after a year. I have about ~970GB used of the capacity, migrating absolutely everything would require disk larger than 2TB, because formats and stuff. My other, actual 1TB HDD shows up as 899GB. But HDD's are slow, and the good ones are expensive, and since I know that the games I want to play will fit on the SSD's.... In addition to that the reason for the slowdown is probably mainly because I haven't deleted anything of the drive for the entire time I have had it. ~1 year. So, should I stick with the Corsair cooler? I originally wanted to get swiftech, more specifically the H220. But that cooler is off the market... And the store I am buying from doesn't sell swiftech at all, I would need to order from Germany. And is the M.2 SSD worth it's price. I really like my 128GB SSD, loading times on games/applications are great, but I can only fir a few on it alone.

Eyeblink - software that helps you with eye fatigue
UnknownEngineer replied to WereCat's topic in Tech News
Also a possibility. That would make the original issue more serious, and at the same time more noticeable. This could increase the likely hood of the subject searching for proper help, say, from a psychiatrist. Or the said person would eventually attach a machine to his/hers head to blink for them. This would likely lead to the person being removed from the gene-pool, figuratively speaking of course. -
Eyeblink - software that helps you with eye fatigue
UnknownEngineer replied to WereCat's topic in Tech News
When you think about it, using this software (or something similar) could also get people used to blinking more often when staring at a screen. Thus eventually removing the need for the software, and any further "assists" involved with the issue. -
So far the only things that didn't work were some old versions of hardware monitoring programs. Coretemp for an example ate up a nice 32GB of RAM and froze my system. BTW I have 16GB of ram...even my pagefile was flooded. But other than that all the same programs work, and OBS worked for me when I test streamed ARMA 3.
-
I don't think that is the reason, you said it also recovered the parts of the background that were lost. Windows probably has the images stored in another place as well, it most likely isn't pulling them from the same place any more. IIRC the desktop icon locations could get re-arranged if you resolution changes, this suggest a possible GPU driver issue, or something similar.
-
No, it would just not work. I was basically joking, you can only achieve that kind of RAID with some servers, if even at all. You simply cannot RAID different sized disks period. EDIT: Multiple level raids can be done AFAIK, but I am certain that the parts that are going to get "merged" need to be identical. Go to the wiki page for RAID, it has pictures that represent what I am talking about. If you were to try. You would need more drives to be able to do it, 500GB drives in a combined ~1TB RAID, would only work in RAID with another similar setup.
-
You cannot have a RAID with different sized disks. Not unless you do some multi level raid insanity. Basically you would have to have a RAID 0 for the 2 500GB drives, and then RAID 0 that with the 1x 1TB drive. Then finally RAID 0 the 2 2TB systems. The RAID 1 is probably just not showing up in explorer, you will probably see the disks in disk-management. You can open disk management like this. 1. open control panel, type "disk" into the search bar. 2. select "create and format hard disk partitions".

Seems like either you GPU's driver is going bonkers, thus causing issues with windows, or then it is just your old install causing issues. Personally I would just re-install the OS. As for the AdwCleaner thing, just looks like it deleted some things it identified as ads from chrome's cache. I went to that folder and found files with names of websites I have visited. Nothing to be concerned about IMO. Not entirely sure about the registry thing, seems like it just deleted an already un-installed programs registry entry. A corrupted windows install is all I can think of.

XBox One’s EA Access heads to PC as Origin Access
UnknownEngineer replied to zMeul's topic in Tech News
I wouldn't mind seeing you showing how you can get all of these games with the correct versions, for less than a 2 or 3 year subscription. And the fact that this service gives you games that have been out for a while is a major issue? How? Latest iterations in series or whole series of games. Allot of the games coming out on the service are still good games. This isn't a service for every single gamer, but to deny it's value to those who it is intended for... If anything, games that are suffering from low multiplayer populations are only going to benefit from this. -
XBox One’s EA Access heads to PC as Origin Access
UnknownEngineer replied to zMeul's topic in Tech News
After 2 years of using this service you would start to pay more for the games. And more are getting added constantly. This isn't a bad deal by default, I don't know why so many see it as that. -
Intel Skylake CPU flaw is making systems crash under heavy load.
UnknownEngineer replied to GoodBytes's topic in Tech News
Wonderful, just wonderful, I think I have heard enough bad things about skylake after launch for now. If only Z77 boards were still available when I was looking to replace my dying one I would have avoided this cursed chip. If the "fix" they have in mind has any negative affects I will freak out.
