Day 20 - Names

Good evening ladies, gentlespoons and all other forms of cutlery! Did you know that today is name your PC day? I didn't. If you don't believe me, look it up! Who is coming up with all of these days?! This makes me wonder; how many of you have named your PC? The whole idea makes a lot of sense. Most of us have designed and built a unique system to fit our needs. It ought to have a name! It also makes managing your network much easier. When I see "Deskop-BuNcHaLettersAndNum53r5" and "Deskop-BuNcHaNum53r5AndLetters," I couldn't tell you which one is my laptop and which is the PC! What is the name of your PC? If there is a story behind it, I'd love to know that too!

As I write I'm listening to Israel Kamakawiwoʻole's (aka IZ) album Facing Future. I'm sure you have heard his cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World, but I'd recommend you give the rest of the album a listen too. Spotify Link

Now for the important part of the blog! The team total! No matter how many points you produced, you have helped us achieve this total. Today the team has produced an additional 11,032,752,385 points. That makes the new event total 122,651,775,819 points and 304,138WUs. That makes an average of 332,389,636 points per participant. A quick look a the percentage breakdowns shows us that the top ten produced 78.00% of the total today, the top 50 produced 88.49% of it and the top 100 produced 94.55% of the total. This lines up to what we have seen for the previous few days.

In the top ten, things may appear to be still, but there is still plenty going on. This is a marathon after all! The Stobinator holds the golden rank with 58,322,749,859 points. The Stobinator isn't slowing down either! He produced another 7,524,190,122 points today. Unless someone else owns a data center or has some powerful friends at nVIDIA, Sobin will stay on the throne. SAZrocks, you've got the silver (good song) for now. SAZ holds the rank with 3,461,524,728 points. In the bronze position is miker07 with 3,263,139,743 points. It looks like the price for a spot on the podium is three billion points. Justaphf is in fourth and is well on their way to the three billion point mark. Justa holds the rank with 2,593,024,726 points. Mxyzptlk is in fifth with 2,473,447,378 point. Mixie is doing great this event! He is few ranks ahead of where he was in folding month last year. lightmaster remains in sixth with 1,923,561,066 points. So close to two billion! Gorgon is keeping steady in seventh with 1,541,646,327 points. Koeger, who is NOT one of the Keebler elves on the saltine crackers is in eighth. He holds the rank with 1,326,804,172 points. pyrosrock is folding faster Koeger and is in ninth. pyrosrock holds the rank with 1,205,354,235 points. Finally, we have the honourable gatekeeper Shlouski with 1,183,073,372 points.

Outside of the top ten, both Sequence211 and Alex Atkin UK have earned over one billion points! Nice! NogginBopper pushed past Favebook and is now in 20th with 662,127,500 points. OzoneSea has climbed +10 ranks to 139th. Stroopwafelman has also climbed +10 ranks and is now in 238th. Climbing +9 ranks is Kiln0063 landing in 277th. Both KopiousKarp and Nevan Nedall have climbed +8 ranks today. JosiahT is now in 191st after climbing +7 ranks. Zacxen has climbed +5 ranks to 88th. Kilrah, holder of the ban hammer has also climbed +5 ranks landing in 204th. tenorsaxdude, spyker1324, and BiotechBen have all climbed +4 ranks today. I haven't heard from @BiotechBen in a while. I wonder what he is up to.

Let's see what is going on in the 150-160 range! @codemonkey89 is in 150th after gaining a rank today. He holds the rank with 97,198,883 points. So close to 100 million! @Bricksider is in 151st with 95,781,468 points. Looks like bricksider has taken a break from crunching on BOINC. @ProfessionalUsername is in 152nd after climbing a rank today! Mr. Username holds the rank with 91,435,792 points. In 153rd is @ThunderCat1 with 90,882,916 points. Nice hair by the way. @Towdee is holding steady in 154th with 86,702,042 points. @ScubaMatt_ is on the move! He has swam his way up three ranks and now is in 155th with 82,409,483 points. @Mightymike2001 is now in 156th after climbing three ranks. Mike holds the rank with 81,969,298 points. Despite all this movement, @Fleksi remains steady in 157th with 81,828,610 points. In 158th is @Ichtequi with 81,619,574 points. Geez, Mightymike2001, Fleksi, and Ichtequi are all so close! I'm sure we will see some movement there! @not2useful is in 159th after falling four ranks today. He holds the rank with 80,344,691 points. Last but now least in my side quest is @rcarrascosa who has gained two ranks and is now in 160th with 76,962,503 points. Well that was fun! I'd say it was more interesting that the top ten!

I hate to be a downer but we need to talk about power bills. I have been consistently using at least 550W to power my folding operation. I'm sure the case will be similar for many of you. My power is about 25-30 cents per kWh, which certainly adds up. Although it's my goal to encourage the team to earn tons of points, I'd really hate for anyone to blow the bank on power because of this event. The competition is fun, but you can still participate and qualify for this event without breaking the bank. I'd like to thank you all again for risking your hardware, and giving up electricity with the goal of helping others.

See you tomorrow!

@TheLANguy Surviving lmao

11/2: *making deals with God while hunched over the toilet* food poisoning that took a week to get my voice back from and mildly bruised rib(s)

11/10: chest cold

11/16: intense insomnia

Hopefully am now on the mend.

Thanks my dude! It's been a long while since I remembered how underrated a big, deep breath was (throwback 2017 pneumonia and 2020 'rona)

Wow, 25 cents per kilowatt hour is crazy! It's seven cents for me here in Nebraska!

Going up to ~15¢ here in the greater Philadelphia area. Gotta love the regional monoplies and non-competes.

I have no clue how much electricity is here but I'm going with .25/kWh, so my PC is gonna rack up 60 bucks worth of electricity during this month of folding. Luckily I don't pay the bill myself, that's also why I'm getting an OLED soon hahaha

PowerBill sounds like a good folding machine name.

Mine are usually named a combination of color or form factor to keep things easy.  One of my prime folders is RedBox....for what should be obvious reasons about the discount case that was acquired to build it in.  LOL
