Day One - GO!

GOTSpectrum

Well here we are, folding month 2021 has kicked off and it's a smaller than average event. But nonetheless we will be doing our usual posts, validation and all of that juicy goodness.

It is always my pleasure to write the first post of the event, to see who has kicked into high gear from the out-set and who taking some time to pick up their speeds and get folding. Only time will tell where everyone will finish, and I generally don't take much notice of where people are sitting this early in the event. But it is still interesting to have an idea of who is pushing hard and who is meandering their way through the event.

In first place we have Miker07 with 34.04 million points, Certainly not a slough and it will be interesting if anyone can challenge this veteran. Second place is taken by Ben-F with 22.47 million points, and following very closing behind in third place we have Justaphf with 22.02 million points. It will be interesting too see if Justaphf can push a few more points and take that second place away from Ben. Favebook finds themselves in fourth place with 12.70 million points, trailing behind by only a million points we have Mxyzptlk sitting in fifth place with 11.76 million points. And that is the top five place on the close of the first day.

Starman57 is sitting in 6th place with 10.67 million points, it wouldn't take much more effort to push into the top 5, vsteel is in 7th place with 9.98 million, and within spitting distance 8th place is Pezui with 9.81 million points. 9th place is taken by dmynerd78 with 8.16 million points. LazyDev has found themselves as the gatekeeper of the top ten place with 7.85 million points.

So as you can see it is certainly exciting here at Folding month 2021, it is important to remember than these initial rankings will change, as this is a marathon not a sprint. As the event goes on and the ranks develop we will look into the lower ranks and point out anyone who is interesting. but for the time being I think I will leave it there.

Please click on the link below to see the full list of ranks for the first day.

Day One Ranks

Please remember that this is a friendly event, but we are all folding away for Science, AND GLORY!

I'm really impressed with the numbers we are seeing here, Thank you to all who are involved and who make this worth while every year.

Remember we are a team first and individuals second, so give thanks where thanks is due and hit that reaction button when someone helps you out.

Be wary of the minimum participation requirements this year.

20 Days with activity*, 500,000 Points & 40 WU

(*activity is defined as completing at least 1WU for the 24 hour period)

Finally, if you have had any hardware die during the event or on the run up to the event during preparations please post it on the thread below

I experienced a few crashes which got rid of WUs that were like 40-80% completed, so I wasn't able to fold to my 1660 Ti's full potential at the beginning. However, I think I've worked out the kinks and found a stable undervolt.

By the way, @GOTSpectrum, it appears that my 5700 XT is folding at a lower PPD (1.1-1.3M) than my 1660 Ti (1.3-1.4M), even though both are running above stock frequencies. Could this be a driver-related issue?

It would be a good idea for you to check what the cards do on @LAR_Systemswebsite... https://folding.lar.systems/

That way you can see if they are performing as expected. Team green is usually better than AMD when it comes to how well their cards fold.

Thanks for letting me know! According to their PPD ranks, my 1660 Ti is performing well above average, but my 5700 XT is currently doing 1.1M PPD, in contrast with the Windows average of around 1.3M PPD. I hear that certain drivers are better for folding; is that really the case? (If it helps, my 5700 XT is running at 2100 MHz (memory at 1850 MHz) with a hotspot temperature of 70 C.)

Honestly, as much as I love AMD as a company, I run all team green, so I'm not really sure. I have also heard certain drivers are better and certain ones are worse. But I don't have any first hand experience.
