Problem first home built PC please help

h4ckinator

Hello all,

I recently build my very own computer, but something is bugging me.

My system:
gigabyte Z170X UD5 TH mobo, i7 6700(non-k) cpu, be quiet dark rock advanced c1 cpu cooler, 2x 4GB DDR4 RAM Kingston hyper X @2133Mhz (not overclocked), Gigabyte G1 gaming GTX 970 gpu, corsair AX860 psu, samsung 850 evo 500GB SSD, TP link archer T9e wifi card, corsiar obsidian 750D computer case, windows 10 home 64bit, benQ xl2430t.

I have put everything together, first time booting up I got LED debugcode 55. Looked up the code in my manual and found out my RAM was not competely inserted into my mobo.

Second try my computer booted and I installed windows 10 and necessary drivers (not all because some were giving installation errors). I don't have an optical drive so I downloaded from the gigabyte website. I will buy an external optical drive to get the from the included DVD. But anyway the necessary drivers are installed: mobo chipset driver, nvidia gpu driver, wireless internet driver, audio driver (not f.e. ethernet driver).

Everything is working fine. I downloaded steam and played some games. Computer seems to be performing as expected. All the fans are spinning(case, cpu and gpu). So nothing wrong there. My computer also recognizes all the hardware in my mobo.

BUT I get these LED debugcodes and I don't know what they mean so it stresses me out a bit. It makes me think something is wrong with the computer, but there is no indication of that because it is working fine.

I recognized a patern:

when I shut down my computer and then boot it back up it gives me as LED debugcode: 04
when I restart my computer it gives me as LED debugcode: 51
when I put my computer into sleep mode and wake it back up it gives me as LED debugcode: 03

Can someone help me to understand this? Is there a problem with my computer? Or don't I need to be worried?

Thanks in advance for all your helpfull comments!

My motherboard does the same thing, look up the codes :what do they mean?

Fot me it says its loading stuff ect.

You are fine. Its just the board showing you what it is doing.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

if you are getting the same debug codes everytime and then the  PC boots into  windows successfully, I wouldnt  worry. It does sound like its simply telling what its doing as it boots/reawakes etc

codes 03 and 04 are not in the manual

code 51: 50~55 Memory initialization error occurs.

Seems like it is an error?

Thx already for the replies guys, still not fully reassured everything is ok and working as it should.

Maybe try testing your memory with memtest86.

But if your pc successfully boots into windows i wouldn't worry.

And if you are not getting BSODs .... I would say you are all good

Is there a program I can run from my desktop to test my RAM?

yeah, probably should not worry about the 03 and 04 codes, because they are not even in the manual. The 51 bugs me since it could be an error.. but then again it is so weird it only pop's up when restarting my computer and not always if it were to be an error. My RAM is also detected by the system..

It was my first time building a computer, so I have limited knowledge of the more complex technical stuff

Well, yes probably. Maybe I am too paranoid:p The 51 error bugs me the most!

What is BSODs?:P

As far as i am aware, therw are no decent memory twsting apps on windows.

Just put memtest 86 on a usb flash drive an set usb drives as boot drive.

A bsod, or blue screen of death, is the screen showin an error code when your pc crashes. It looks like this :

Ok, I'll try that to test my RAM. It won't damage my windows installation?

Memtest runs off its own drive and just tests the Memory. It won't even touch your Windows installation. :)

Thx, I'll test it! I'll come back with the results

I only have an external HDD of 500GB (it is formatted) can I use that as a "usb flash drive?"

don't you have a usb flash drive lying around ?

That's the easiest option and even a 2gb tick will befine .

Otherwise you could burn it to a cd rom or make a partition and run it in dual boot ( unnecessarily hard and will add an extra step to bootup process)

I often use an SD Card in a USB Reader. Works fine.

he could do that too , but it would require having an sd card reader and a lot of motherboard don't support booting from an sd card reader

I'll get me a small 4GB USB stick on saturday. I don't have one, because I use online storage a lot. Hope you guys are still around on saturday when I come back with the results.

Thx everyone for helping me out. I realy appreciate it!

Really? I guess I have been lucky, because I've used it on several machines (even a netbook :P) and haven't had a problem.

i guess it depends on the motherboard .

The real nightmare begins when your mobo doesnt suport booting from usb ;(

I don't think they should be able to get away with that nowadays. You can't guarantee the presence of an optical drive like you used to.

Its odd how we were all rather jumpy about our first build, but dont worry about it. Test the memory when you can and enjoy your creation in the meantime.

Cheers

Hello guys,

I bought a flash drive, but decided to not run memtest86. I got some drivers of my CD included with the mobo and the leddebugcode changed into A0 which is good. However it included so much junk I decided to remove all the unnecesary programs I had installed and the leddebugcode went back to 03, 04 and 51. So it is probably software related.

Also, right before it changes into 04 it states A0.. (dunno about the other 2)

It seems everything is ok. When I notice something is wrong I will run the memtest86, but for now I leave it as it is! I don't have a lot of time to enjoy my computer, because I work a lot so I rather use the time I have for my system and enjoy myself a bit:p

Thx a lot for your comments and help. You are kind Sirs;)
