In search of a device with specific feature set

mikeywil0003

I am looking for a HTPC or streaming device that will be used with a flip down DVD screen in a vehicle. I can't seem to find something that has what I need. Maybe someone could steer me in the right direction.

I need the device to have the following:

Composite AV output (could use an HDMI to composite converter if needed)

SPDIF audio output Coax or TOSLINK (or the ability to add with a USB DAC)

Low power, powered by 5 volts or 12 volts

Wifi, or the ability to use a USB Wifi adapter (I want to be able to connect to public Wifi)

Infrared remote control (or the ability to add one via USB)

Ability to play mkv, avi, mp4 from a USB stick

Netflix (this is a must have)

I have looked into using a Raspberry Pi model 2B, an Intel NUC, Roku, Apple TV, etc, but each is missing one or more features that I need.

The closest I have come to finding what I need is the Raspberry Pi model 2B. It has every feature (or at least the features I needed can be added very easily,) but I am unsure of its ability to use Netflix with XBMC. I have experimented and failed to get Netflix to work with XBMC on my desktop PC, it isn't seemless, and required work-arounds.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Uhm the Amazon Fire TV comes close too, HDMI out, TOSLINK out, Decent remote, Netflix, Wifi.

But as Amazon like to lock things down, I don't think it supports MKVs, or even allows you to play files from local USB storage. It's also become increasingly difficult to root the thing (I think new versions are currently unrootable), which would have allowed for USB playback.

Don't actually know about your first point, but Android TV boxes seem to fit the bill quite well.

Something like this, maybe?:

http://www.amazon.fr/Amlogic-Android-Streaming-Media-AML8726-M8/dp/B00RZXY8GC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1443705345&sr=8-1&keywords=amlogic+m8

I have this exact one (this exact model, bought also on amazon but from another vendor). It's pretty good, if you're not looking for LOTS of oomph in your HTPC. I mean, you can play android games on it, but it's no NUC...

But it plays 1080p movies effortlessly, has WiFi, it's low power (fed through a microUSB port actually now that I think about it it's no microUSB but still low power, 5V), SPDIF audio output, infrared remote and plays every video format I throw at it ( you can use VLC on it but I just use KODI...)

EDIT: ah and as for Netflix, it comes installed by default (but you can always install it yourself, as it's available on Android...) as well as KODI. Also, being Android, there are lots of custom ROMs that you can install on it, if you're that sort of person. ;) the box even comes rooted!...

Isn't there a Netflix addon for OSMC/XBMC/Kodi? I had it working on a Pi once
