First Gaming Rig Help, $700-$800 Budget

Ders

Hello LinusTech community, first time posting here. I found out about this forum because of Linus's YouTube channel and was wondering if i could get any tips from you guys! I have never built my own pc, and am trying to keep the budget as low as possible while getting maximum performance. I want to be able to play all triple A titles, such as modded skyrim, the witcher 3, and the upcoming fallout 4 with on mostly (if not all) ultra settings 1080p at a smooth frame rate of 50-60 fps. Nothing more than that is necessary right now because my monitor is going to be 60hz. Anyway, here's the list with prices included via pcpartsmaker.com.

I am also interested in emulation, mostly in GameCube and if possible in this price range PS2, but if not possible that's totally okay too. So, getting to the point, really my main concern with this build is my choice of processor and memory. Should i stick with an AMD 8320 or should spend more and go with the popular i5 4660k, or is just an i5 4660 better for the money? is there an even better option that i don't know about?

The GPU ! chose is nice because it comes with the new MGS and I've read excellent things about it and 1080p gaming. If there's a better GPU option, please let me know! Remember, High-Ultra graphics on Fallout 4 is a must for me.

I do not want to have to upgrade anything major within the next year and a half-two years, but i want the option to. I also do not want to overclock really but if it can that's cool too.

The Monitor and all periphrials must also be included in the budget because i do not have any that I can use, and do not want to run 60 ft of cable to my room from the modem. I don't need an OS because my friend has a copy of WIndows 7 that he said he would lend me.

Bonus points for anyone that can find a blue AMD motherboard of the same quality and price in blue!

PS how is that wireless card? will i have latency issues?

You can get an i5 with that budget. Switch out the 960 for a 280x.

And that power supply isn't very good.

The 960 isn't good enough to make use of its 4GB of ram well, get a r9 290.

Get a better case like the 200R

Get a better power supply

Try to get a r9 290 in there and a bit bigger power supply in case he is fine with spending 800 dollars.

If you are trying to do some emulation intel is a much better option for smooth gameplay singlethread performance is necessary. I switched from a 8320 to a 4690k and it was a night and day difference emulating wii, ps2, GC games and more

I like this one. I was really on the fence with going for intel because i wasn't sure how much money i could be spending on a good motherboard and still be getting a good one. $40 seems low.

also, are you sure i shouldnt get a 4gb card? how long do you think 2gb will last me?

2GB should suffice for 1080p for some time, I can't really tell you for how long but if you are welling to spend more get the r9 290.

And you don't really need a great motherboard, it doesn't affect performance stick with intel.

Hey thanks again for the help. I decided I wanted to spend more money and beefed up my system in an attempt to make it easy to transition to 4k gaming in the future. I got a motherboard that supports crossfire and SLI with a bigger power supply to fuel it and picked out a good graphics card that i think when doubled up should be able to handle some light 4k gaming. how do you think it stacks up? If i do want to use crossfire will i need a better cpu?

There are some H97 boards that support crossfire, and you will need to update the BIOS for Z87 boards if you want to use haswell refresh.

And scrap that power supply, raidmax makes terrible ones! Get a Seasonic S12 or a EVGA GS.
