NTFS USB 3.0 drive not recognized win 10

Hackthesystem

Hello Forum,

I have a problem with my external drives on a dell optiplex 780 with win 10 installed.

When I plug in a NTFS USB 3.0 drive, the drive does not show up in my computer...

It does however show up in the diskmanagement tool... But it is reconized as unallocated space instead of a 2TB NTFS partition...

When I plug the drive in to my alienware laptop it works perfectally...

Also, any usb flash drives work perfectally on the OptiPlex..

I searched online for solutions but didn't find any :(

Do you guys know how to solve this problem?

Greetings

go to disk management and create a new parition.

That would be an option if there was not 2tb of important files on the drive...

that'd be bad advice, since an other pc shows the partition fine.

Is there a window that pops up when you open Disk Management?, all you should need to do is select the correct partition table layout, MBR or GPT. You should not have to make a new partition to get the drive to show up in File Explorer. Another possibility is the presence of drive security, some drive like WD passports have a WD Drive unlock executable. Check for both and if possible post a screenshot of both "This PC" (File Explorer) and Disk Management.

So, it did ask to initialize the disk to either the MBR or GPT label but either of the the options do not get my disk recognized in my computer :(

Is it empty by any chance? Is the Alienware laptop Win7? Does Autoplay pop up? Windows 10 may be at fault here if it is not recognizing a USB with a present partition, check device manager for any yellow triangles or even find it and remove it and re-scan for hardware changes. If it does not show up last option should be to set a partition for it in Windows 10.

No, it is not empty :) Yes, the alienware is win 7, why? Autoplay does not pop up :(

Unfortunately, after initializing the disk, my alienware can't find the disk in my computer neither...

Win7 made USB use a lot better and I was ruling out reasons why it would connect on one side and not the other.
