Upgrading my CPU and Mobo $300?

Just upgrading those two. $300 is the budget and I play some semi-high end games and like a fast computer. I was thinking of a good i5. Leave me your suggestions, thanks.

Locked Skylakes are just around the corner, but for now I'd get a 4590 and a decent H97 Mobo or an entry level Z97.

a used 2500k + mobo can be generaly have for about $200.

 

If you go that route you will have another $100 to spend on a GPU like HD 7970 / r9 280x
