How much video cards in SLI would you need to start getting Microstuttering? 3? 4?

can even exist on just 2 cards when the driver has issues or the game was developed with poor SLI support.

More cards=more stuttering generally but it has more to do with the drivers and SLI profile implementation than the number of cards. Games with poor profiles or optimization will stutter more than games with better profiles. There's no end all be all answer as it varies on a game by game basis.
