First PC Build; Critique?

With the extra student loan money this semester, I've decided to ascend.  I have a friend majoring in computer science helping me out, and he recommended posting it here.

Budget: $1000 (including peripherals).

Goals: Longevity, using Adobe Photoshop, gaming every once in a while. These are hobbies, not my career choice.
Planned upgrades: More RAM, and a better GPU. Maybe an HDD.

PCPartPicker list

CPU - i5-4590 3.3GHz

CPU Cooling - Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard - ASRock H97M PRO4
RAM - 1x8GB DDR3-1600 (Crucial Ballistix Sport)

SSD -  Sandisk 256GB
GPU - MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB
PSU - Thermaltake SMART 750W

_
Monitor - Acer H236HLbid 60Hz 23"
Keyboard - Poseidon Z
Mouse - Razer Abyssus

The reason I haven't included an HDD is because I've lived comfortably off of ChromeOS. I don't need that much space.

What do you guys think?

I think photoship can benefit from hyperthreading, for $40 extra, consider this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646e31230v3

You get no integrated GPU, but otherwise it's basically a cheaper i7.

CPU:  Intel i7-4790K      Cooler:  Noctua NH-D14     GPU: ZOTAC GTX 1070 TI MINI     Motherboard:  ASUS Z97 Gryphon     RAM:  32GB G Skill Trident X

Storage: 2x 512GB Samsung 850 EVO (RAID 0) / 2TB Seagate Barracuda     PSU: 850W EVGA SuperNova G2     Case: Fractal Design Node 804

That PSU makes me cringe ._.

Use to have a TT Smart SE 630W - started whining, clicking and so on. Changed it.

What do you recommend for a PSU? Reddit's /r/pcmasterrace builds has an EVGA 850W.

I'd suggest a SeaSonic M12II 620W.

  1. get 2 sticks of ram at 4gb

in terms of the ssd at the 85 dollar price point, i would get an 850 evo from samsung instead

the 290 is fine, but it gets very hot when under load. if you can squeeze a 390 in instead, that would be better as i've heard they have much better cooling

i don't know anything about your psu. i go for evga gs or g2 psu's or seasonic ones

your monitor is a bit cheap for gaming. ideally, you want a 1ms and 144 hertz monitor for playing games. if you can save up more and buy one of these at a later date, i would do that

other than that, the build looks good!

#1 The ssd is his only drive, there's no reason not to spend the extra 20 bucks and get double the space.

#2, I agree he might want to spend a bit more on it. But 1ms at 144hz makes absolutely no sense for him. He said going to be doing photoshop in addition to gaming, which means a tn panel wouldn't work. and the difference between 1ms and 5ms is completely negligible, that's 4 thousands of one second, and ghosting shouldn't be a problem under 10ms. and a 290 isn't going to be pushing 144hz on any decent quality in most modern games.

EDIT: yes I know the numbers got messed up when I deleted the unnecessary lines.
