Preferably not a potato in a steel box.

I drop my phone pretty often but not to the extent that I need a phone which is pretty much a 2 year old phone in a case, built into the phone.

Asus zenfone 2, the highest end version.

Yes, I always recommend this phone because it's absolutely epic for the price.

I'm bias towards the LG G3, since I own it and all, but it really is a fantastic phone. I highly recommend that you buy it.

$300 refurbished - http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-G3-D850-32GB-AT-T-Unlocked-Smartphone-Black-or-White-Great-/141573453918?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item20f66f785e

You may be able to find it for a cheaper price though, so look around a bit - http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=lg+g3&_from=R40%7CR40&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR10.TRC0.A0.H0.Xlg+g3+AT%26T.TRS0&_nkw=lg+g3+AT%26T&_sacat=0

I also recommend the OnePlus One, especially now that you can buy it without an invite (on Tuesdays only).

$300/$350 brand new - https://oneplus.net/one

If not having a removable battery and not having microSD expansion isn't a big deal to you, then I suggest that you get the OnePlus One. If you like those things, get the LG G3.

Asus zenfone 2, the highest end version.

The only problem is that Zenfone 2 doesn't support all of AT&T's LTE bands, and it especially does not support their main LTE band - band 17. LTE band 17 makes up the bulk of their LTE coverage, and since the Zenfone 2 does not have band 17 support, then LTE coverage will be severely limited.

The following LTE bands are used on AT&T:

17 - Main, provides complete coverage

5 - Other main LTE band

4 - Provides more bandwidth in many markets

2 - Provides more bandwidth in many markets

29 - Provides supplemental downlink bandwidth

30 - Provides more bandwidth in many markets

Again, of these bands, for a phone to be very usable on AT&T's network, it should at least have band 17 support, and band 5 support would be even better.

Of these LTE bands, the Zenfone 2 only supports bands 2, 4, and 5. Now, this is based on the Taiwan and Europe versions of the Znefone 2, since those are the only versions out right now. The US model does have band 17 support, but the US model isn't out yet.

It does support band 17, check it out: http://www.asus.com/Phones/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML/specifications/

I edited my post while you were replying, so I'll quickly restate what I said.

While yes, the US version of the Zenfone 2 does have band 17 LTE support, the US version is not out yet, nor does it have a release date. The only versions out right now are the Taiwan and Europe versions, neither of which support band 17 LTE.
