Best use of $800?

Hecknologist

I'm looking to get a laptop for uni for under or around $1000 NZD. I've been offered an HP Envy 15-J112TX for $800 without an OS (no problems, got OS for days) but it seems a bit too bulky for travelling around.

Is there anything better at this price or similar?

It doesn't need to be a powerhouse but 8gb ram is neccessary, basically an ultrabook. Ideally I'd get an xps 13 but it's a little expensive here (new zealand).

I could recommend the Surface Pro 2, 256GB version has 8GB of RAM. http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=2242093

Not sure how that works around your price range, and I don't have any personal experience with it, but I've got the SP3, and it was well worth it, so I'm assuming that the SP2 is at the same value.

I personally use a Dell... just look at my signature, it cost like what 800euros? No OS.

I'll have a look for reviews and second hand pricing, it seems a little steep for it's price, thanks for the thought.

Asus zenbook ux305 ??

I can only find the ux303 (ux305 must not be out here yet) and it costs $1300+ NZD. Thanks for the input anyway.

Dell is definitely one to look at. I'll try looking at second hand, thanks.

Thanks for the replies guys, it seems that product availability is a real problem in NZ (not to mention ridiculous markup) so I've had to look purely at price to performance. I've been offered an HP envy 15-k207tx for $1400 and am going to have a look at one today. It's more than I want to pay so it'll have to be good for me to fork out more.

Thanks again.
