Hard Drive Always spinning

I have recently built my first system for light gaming, I don't have many games thus far so I only bought a 500gb HDD.

I have had a pre-built system before I could barely hear the hard drive even when downloading files etc; but with this new PC I can always hear the HDD spinning even when idle. I cannot think of anything that I am doing even at idle to make my hard drive read/write.

PC Specs:

-GIGABYTE GA-B85M-D3H Intel B85

-Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01

-8GB (1x8GB) Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile 1600MHz

-500W Corsair Builder Series CX500M

-Sapphire Radeon R9 270X Dual-X Boost OC

-1TB Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 3.5" SATA III Hard Drive (@7200rpm)

Please Help!

I have that HDD and I never hear it. It may be the hard drive rattling against the drive cage making the whole case vibrate.

it may just be your graphics card, or just a loud case/drive.  But on an HDD, it should ALWAYS be spinning, if it is not; You have issues

Hmmm I can definitely hear the drive, not a rattle etc. just seems a bit loud for an idle system. Some people say it could be because I updated BIOS?

Hmmm you may have just had a 5400RPM drive in your last system. There's nothing wrong with it and you can't do anything about it. Maybe get anti vibration pads for the drive and some sound dampening foam for your case.

Hard drives typically don't stop spinning unless off or put into 'hibernate' by Windows after not being used. I highly doubt it's all that loud, unless the rest of your system is silent or near silent.

It's supposed to constantly spin. Your system is always reading data from the drive. If you have an HDD activity indicator, watch it. You'll see it flash a fair bit. Just because you're not doing anything, doesn't mean the system isn't.

In my opinion, I can't hear my Hard DriveS over the noise comming from the R9 270, and the H100i fans, so if you can hear it, then maybe is one of the situations the other ppl have stated before, rattling cages, something else that makes the noise and seems to be the hard drive. or another option could be that the drive needs to be RMA'd and thats it, it has happened to me before.. and with a mechanical drive better to be on the safe side (sice you probably stilll have warranty on it)  :)  hope that helps!
