Network Upgrade

Hey everyone, 

 

A while ago I posted this thread about internet issues in my house. Long story short, I was guided to changing the channel on my Comcast all in one and it worked for a couple days. But now our plan with Comcast is up soon, and my parents no longer want to rent from Comcast, even if that means sacrificing our unused home phone service. 

 

So they wandered into Best Buy today and were told that most people were buying:

 

Motorola surfboard 400 series for the modem

Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 for the router

 

Upon doing some research, the modem seems to be very popular. However the router seems to have some issues with printers randomly disconnecting and requiring the router to be reset. 

 

So my question is, what router should I actually get?

NIGHTHAWK FTW 

i have it and enjoy it

 

you don't need a modem dafug?, you are given one from the isp just plug the router into that.

We want to stop renting the crappy all in one from our ISP. 

 

Do you have a wireless printer connected to your nighthawk? Also, do you have the 1900AC or a different one?

its a wired printer, and its that model

you shouldn't have to rent one...it should come with default they can't just give you internet without a modem....

We have a monthly renting fee for our all in one router/modem for about $10 a month. Comcast was voted the worst company of 2014, they do what they want. We are able to buy our own equipment to avoid these fees.
