8 pin 12V? 4+4 pin? What does it mean?

So i'm looking for a psu for X99 Rampage V Extreme and on the specs it needs :

One. 24-pin EATX
One. 8-pin ATX 12 V
One. 4-pin ATX 12 V

I'm looking for a matching psu but i'm not sure i understand correctly.

Exampel: Cooler Master v100 have
20+4 Pin Connector x 1
4-pin 12v: 4+4 Pin x 2

 

Corsair HX100i:
20+4 Pin Connector x 1
8-pin 12v: 4x4 Pin x 2

Is 4-pin 12V the same thing as 8-pin 12V? And what about the 4x4? and then x2?

the additional 4pin is not necessary, and i dont think any psu has it, its more for extreme overclocking, with dual psus and so, for more power dont worry about it

They are both for power to the cpu so essentially the same. You probably will only need the 8 pin plugged in unless you are going for high overclocks.

4+4 pin connector is detachable for support both motherboards that require only a 4-pin connector and one that requires 8-pin.

 

 

The Cooler Master V1000 and HX1000i both have two 4+4 pin cables. One of the cables will have both the 4+4 pin connector plugged into the 8-pin socket, while the only one of the 4 pin on the other cable will be plugged into the 4-pin socket.
