It's probably because the 9xx series is about to drop.

Pretty amazing deal though, get it.

How much ?

Judging by the techpowerup review, the DCUII cooler on the card is a bit meh. And since they use the same cooler on the R9 290 and 290X, where it really sucks, maybe they've unexpectedly ended up with a surplus that they're trying to shift before everything goes 900-series.

Or maybe it's just random price fluctuations. It happens.

The 900 series isn't really any closer for Asus than for other brands though. Unless there's something I'm missing.

From what I have read and judging from the fact that I am currently running an Asus DCUII card as I type. .... They are over hyped and they real really really under perform for what the cost.

You could have easily clicked "view" on the product in question and went to one of those e-tailers' websites.

I think its a good deal. I would reinvest the money not spent on more expensive 780ti's to get water blocks on them so they're more quiet and to get better temps.

IDK, i would stick with EVGA or MSI though because I find myself using RMA a lot and Asus has pretty bad customer support.

290 kicks out more heat, micro stuttering is an issue still, some motherboards don't work with it, it takes a LOT more power, it isn't compatible with some smaller cases, some people don't like the aesthetic, some people want 3d vision, some people want G-Sync, some people want GeForce Experience. Some people want Shield Gamestream, some people want shadowplay. This isn't a thread about AMD, or SLI solutions. This is a thread about a 780ti.

Hard to tell.  It isn't like the DCUII isn't a good card.  It is well respected.  ASUS went for stability across production over pure power.  Some people like this, and some don't    But that is beside the point.

As for the price I think it has to do with two factors.   First off is the upcoming 900 series release.  All of the companies are going to be trying to clear out some inventory to make room for the new.   Asus probably just cut first.   Secondly is simply economy of scale.   As far as I know Asus is the largest parts provider to end users.  This means they pump out more cards and probably have a lower cost per unit, so they can make the cuts right now.

As another aside I love my Asus 780Ti DCUII

Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly; the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly.

there were like 2 things about the actuall performance there, the rest was just nvidia features, some of which are fairly niche

I actually have x2 ASUS GTX 780ti in SLI and am pretty happy with them. They don't overclock as well as some other vendors but they keep cool and quiet plus the performance is still better than pretty much anything else out.

So they magically made both 290s output half heat, be reduced in size so they both fit into a single PCIE port (No not 295x2, you said 290. 295x2 is 290x) and they got all of the Nvidia features? That's amazing how did they do that?
