Why are my headphones louder in the front audio ports?

Guest Console Peasant

I recently realised that my front audio jacks are louder then my rear ports (I at first also saw that it changed from 'Speakers' to 'Headphones' in the Sound menu'. Can anyone tell me why this is? Is it because of Windows sound options? My sound card? or something else? Thanks!

You may have the front panel (speakers) volume setting in Realtek HD Audio Manager (given that's what your mobo has) higher than the rear ports (headphones).

Though the sound slider on the taskbar shouldn't change for different ports.

What's your motherboard, if your using the onboard audio chipset than maybe we'd be able to help you out more-so.

Ima go to sleep now, though hopefully someone else can help you out before I get back tomorrow.

Well that motherboard has Realtek ALC892, which means that you should have Realtek's HD Audio Manager, afaik that is.

What happens when you use the front audio port with most computers is that there is a wire running from the motherboard to the front panel. This wire acts like a radio antenna and picks up all of the electrical noise inside of the computer (which there is a lot of). In turns means you tend to hear a lot more noise/static/pop's ect ect.
