I use keyboard and mouse for everything but racing games. But there is no better option, try it with both and see what you like most.

Keyboard and mouse all the way, I am terrible with controllers for looking around and such, a mouse is much easier and more accurate.

For racing games I prefer using a racing wheel + pedals.

^^This

For me personally I would use a controller for anything that has a moderate amount of driving in it, for example watchdogs and other games that are hack and slash style. While I would use a keyboard when playing an FPS or most other games.

IMO the advantages for each are

Controller:

Better movement control

Comfort

Fluidity

Keyboard/mouse:

Better control remapping

Accuracy(mouse)

Each has their advantages and I use both and for didecated racing games I will use eithe my controller or my G27, I refuse to use a keyboard for any kind of racing game.

I choose the controller that suits the game I am playing the best. I have a couple of gamepads and a racing wheel to go with my mouse and keyboard so I am flexible.

I grew up with a controller so I still love it. I find when a game uses a lot of buttons (like 8+) you lose track of where stuff is and have to move your hand into hard positions, especially for games where you might have to keep the W key pressed constantly.

Some games are made to be played on a controller (GTA, racing games, every Ubisoft game in existence #FuckUbisoft). It just feels better in those games. Granted some games feel like crap on the controller so it is good to have both. But personally i love my Mouse and keyboard.

I personally prefer a controller, but my current keyboard is awful so we shall see once I get the K70 RGB what I like better.
