Best gpu for me?

I am new to the form and would really like some help. I am trying to decide what graphics card to go with. I am looking to spend between $500 and $600 and and looking for some direction as to which might be better for me. I don't play a lot of FPS but I will from time to time most of my gaming is strategy, RPG's, or some sandbox type game like KSP and Space Engineers. I don't stream to twich or anything like that but I am interested in future compatibility with steam over wifi steaming. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the LTT forum

For that price range I would suggest a R9 290x or a GTX 780 ti.

Hope this helps. :)

So you will need Nvidia to stream over wifi.

$500-600 and you recommend a 770? Please don't.

On a realistic note. You could squueze a bit more than 600 and get an EVGA 780 Ti SC w/ ACX cooler. Those things are powerful. If your PSU is good enough (850W) and you squeeze a bit more money, Dual R9 290 in CF is a solid choice too.

Edit: You do not play very demanding games. What is your current graphics card?

Only issue with AMD is that he said he wanted to stream over wifi later. AFAIK Nvidia only has that feature right now.

This is true and not to mention the Nvidia drives are more advanced. Personally I would go 780ti.

Those cards aren't even close to comparable in terms of performance AND price. A 280x is $300. If he keeps playing games that are not that demanding then an R9 290 is pretty much the highest he will want (and even that is overkill). If you want that wifi streaming utility that Nvidia has I would suggest no higher than a 780 (again quite overkill for the games he is playing).

Thanks so much for all of the input, right now I am a poor collage student so I have been using a laptop for my gaming. I just got a new job that will allow me to build a gaming rig, my room mate has a gaming rig with a asus 280x oc and using steam I have been able to stream over the network to my laptop. One of the things I was wondering was if one type was better than the other for that application. Also at this time I don't play a lot of extreme games I do want to start playing Skyrim and do plan on using several mods which I have heard can really tax a system. I do plan on using an 850watt psu so multiple cards would be an option but I am not sure if it fits in my budget.

This is what I am looking at:

Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3

EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 220-G2-0850-XR

SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW x2 Raid - 0

AMD FX-8350 Black Edition

CORSAIR Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD20EFRX 2TB x3 Raid - 5

ASUS Black 12X BD-ROM

Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit

http://www.swiftech.com/H220-X.aspx

Later I might add a water black to the gpu and a second radiator to the loop, any thoughts?
