So a few days ago i made a post about going to a 2 day paintball camp and i would like to share my experience with it then ask for some advice.

 

 

So what we did at "camp" was a few activities like taking apart the gun then putting it together again and a scavenger hunt for parts (this was a camp for 10-15 year olds as a into/ semi experienced) and then played some different game modes on maps n'stuff. We played some tdm and capture the flag and i was fairly good because i had tactics and a decent shot.

 

i ended up buying a good thermal mask and was thinking that i wanted to buy my own gun as i wanted to start doing some drop in games and maybe join a league if there are ones around here (I have looked and so far there is like no amateur leagues).

 

But there is a catch, i dont really have alot of money to spend on one thing as there are lots of tech things i want along with this gun, and im not sure how my parents would feel about me buying one, as i recently spend a shit ton of money on my pc and yet to hardcore use it (not to say it was not worth it, just have yet to use my new gpu intensive except bio shock infinite).

 

so im not sure if i should get a gun as im sure that if i want paint balling enough it would be worth the cost, but im not sure how often i would use it, and i if i was to go paint balling often, it would easily be worth.

 

Do you guys think based on what i said that a paintball gun would be worth it or not? if so what kind of a gun, the rentals that we used were tippmann 98s and tippmann pt 14's (i think thats what that one was called, there common rentals i think), and i would have a budget of around 125$

 

Also if anyone could suggest decent paintball fourms i would be thankfull

Well weigh up the costs of how much it'd be to hire crap compared to how much to buy your equipment.

Tippman's are the best guns for every now-and-then play. The rental ones suck because they go a year without getting cleaned, or rarely getting cleaned. If you take care of yours it'll last forever. If you want something with an electronic trigger then you may as well buy one of these guns for how expensive the Tippman's trigger add-on is. I think I've used a Tippman 98 for 6 years on my non-competitive play and never had problems.

Regular hoppers are like $8, and the fancy electronic ones (good for competitive play if you want to make sure there's always a ball in the barrel) are a lot lot lot more.

Air tanks are like power supplies... Buy a good one so it doesn't explode. If your mask is good that's really all you'd need. The debate vs Air and Co2 is endless, but I think the facts are that air doesn't cool your gun, air is a lot cheaper for fields to compress, and air doesn't destroy the o-rings in your gun. You can also measure how much pressure you have left with air, and you have to guess with Co2.

 

I don't know if that would be worth spending money on if you only play 5 times a year, but it's good to know where to start in case you want to play more. I paintball a few times a month and felt having my own gear is way better than using the field's. The only annoyance is tuning the velocity on your gun so it doesn't exceed the range's limit. They should have a spot for that if you ask, or they can do it for you especially if it's a Tippman.

i would get a air tank as i get free refills for that but its like 20$ for co2 refill, my friend has to buy a new tank becase our place only does air, and i would play more when i get my gear i imagine so yeah i may play closer to 10 times a year bat like full days so i think a 98 might be a good investment for 5-7+ years

You could always get a used 98 and rebuild it if it needs it. they have been out forever so they shouldn't be hard to get used

 

I know i have worked on a 98 in the past but i have never owned one. My brother had an tippmann A-5 and a few spyders and clones and i have had a few sypders and clones as well. We always ran co2 but i know compressed air was becoming more popular when i was stopping,

 

A cheap spyder or 98 would work just fine for starting out but both will start to get expressive if you upgrade barrels, grips, triggers, hoppers, regulators it all adds up fast

i think im going to get a 98 and a hopper, rent my tank until i can buy then get a air tank as i get free refills with my field pass i believe, and i will likely only do a stock upgrade and maybe barrel if i want silence, as i do rush flank A LOT
