New rig for little brother: 8320 + GTX 760 or 4570 + R9 270X?

88lochi

Hey guys

My little brother's PC died a few weeks ago and now I'm in the process of figuring out which parts to get for his new one. After getting an overview on his rig, I decided to reuse the case, the RAM and the HDD. So what I need is a new GPU, a CPU, motherboard and powersupply. My brother is on a budget and so the parts should not be over 500€ (450€ would be ideal).

My brother is playing video games at 1080p (Skyrim, Guildwars 2, Minecraft) and is doing some work for school on his computer. After doing my research I'm pretty much stuck between two (or three) options now:

1. An AMD 8320 with a MSI GTX 760 GAMING,

2. An Intel Core i5 4570 with a MSI R9 270X GAMING or

(3. AMD 8320 with R9 270X)

Both options would cost around 450€ depending on the motherboard and PSU I get (Option 3 would be cheaper but also less powerfull I guess). Also: Prices for the AMD card didn't go up over here in Germany, but availability is pretty bad.

Does anyone of you have any advice? I know it's mostly a matter of personal taste, but maybe you could give your opinion on my suggestion. I'd be really grateful!

Thanks for your help!

~lochi

Definitely go for the 760. Although, if you look around, yu may be able to get a second hand 680 for the same price.

Compatible with Windows 95

If he has money for the intel option, i am sure he can add more to his GPU, or even just go for a 6300.

first of all its a 4570 not a 4670k so its close in price to the 8320 if not equal so that point is invalid/

then u should suggest that and not just raise his budget when he already said his max budget

The 8350 is a few dollars more and overclocks much better.

i forget the "r" in closer. ment it wasnt as much of a price difference as a 8320 to a 4670k would be

Wow thanks for all the replies!

Just to clarify thing a bit: the 8320 is about 120€ right now, whereas the 4570 is 160€. An 8350 would also be 160€. As far as the GPUs go: 760 = 210€ and 270X 165€.

Another option would be 6300 and 280X respectively  GTX 770. That would be 90€ + 260€.

The games I listed are just examples of what he plays most of the time. I guess my brother won't upgrade within the next 3 years again, so compatibility with DX 12 would be nice. That would also make Mantle irrelevant.

Looks like 8320 and 760 is the way to go unless someone has another recommendation. What about the 6300? Is it too unbalanced?

Thanks again!

all those options are dx12 compatible so you wont have an issue there. 6300 is ok but would only really downgrade that part if u can get a better GPU. a 6300 with a gtx 770 would be better then the combo with the 760. but if you cant then sticj with the 8320
