How should I move the contents of my laptop's stock M.2 SSD over to a larger M.2 SSD?

I don't have a lot of M.2 slots, and I'm trying to avoid buying any sort of an adapter for this one-time use.

 

My laptop has one M.2, and my desktop PC has one on its Z-97K/CSM motherboard. Besides that, I have an external hard drive or a spare 2.5" SSD to work with.

 

What approach would you recommend for me to clone the SSD with limited interfaces?
