Hello everyone!

 

I've an issue with my Mobo Asrock B450 Pro4, where when OCing my Ryzen 5 2600 I put 1.392V on bios and it idles at that, but when I run P95 Small FFT's the Voltage drops to 1.344V causing me to get gray hair.

 

With that being said it's stable at 4.1Ghz / 1.392V idle (30-33C), 1.344V (66-68C) under artficially heavy load and around 1.372V (50-55C) when gaming.

 

However isn't that kind of a big Vdroop? I mean it drops 0.05V Which makes my quest for 4.2Ghz basically Impossible. The mobo has no LLC setting so that's out of the question.

 

Even if I put 4.2Ghz @ 1.425V on bios (don't really want to push further than that, to not kill my CPU), the Vdroop when starting Small FFT's cause my computer to freeze almost instantly.

 

Is there anything I can do or am I SOL with my 4.2Ghz hopes and dreams?

 

Also is it normal that in Hwmonitor/Hwinfo64 my CPU temp spikes up 10ish degrees celsius when idling and then slowly lowering back down to around 30?

Ryzen in general has a Vdroop problem, without LLC there isnt much you can do here besides getting another motherboard. this is something you have to deal with when buying a lower end board like the B450 Pro4

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Thats what I thought, I'll settle with 4.1Ghz @ 1.392V. Do you think that those are fine for longevity and performance? Thanks!

those are fine

Or in his case take the voltage higher then what you set it to so the vdrop wont hurt you.

to compensate for the Vdroop he would need to raise the voltage to where its too high during normal use or at idle

But at least when it drops the voltage will decrease on big load.  idle is ok, under load the idle voltage will drop and what not.

yes but if the chip is hurt by voltage when its idle then whats the point? 1.425V is considered the roof of safe voltage for Ryzen so going above that at any load isnt recomended and at 1.425V he still droops to low under load so to make anything better under load he would have to raise the voltage above whats recomended by me, the motherboard vendors and most overclockers that know what they are doing

Oh man, that really blows.  To bad you don't have LLC.  You got no choice man, if you want a certain OC, then your going to have to raise the voltage.  Don't worry it is just idle.  When you run a load the vcore will drop from that high idle value and what not.

Yeah it stinks, but oh well, 4.1Ghz isn't too bad either so I'm good :)

Awww man your vdrop is crazy I was just looking at OP.  Intel would be much less.  Look raise your voltage, it is only idling.  Once a CPU task kicks in that vdrop will drop your voltage to safe value hmmmmmm.
