Laptop for school...

Hi all! I'll get straight to the point: I've been using a MacBook Air mid-2013 for about 5 years now (so I'm obviously now used to and familiar with the OS) and so I'm getting a new one. It has to last at least 4 years to get me through my computer science degree at university. I've been leaning towards a MacBook because I've heard they're really good for programmers and I also have an iPhone/iPad so I'm definitely well into the ecosystem. In terms of gaming, I used to try playing CS:GO at 20 FPS on my laptop but eventually got fed up but I'd really be interested in getting back into it which is why I'm considering a gaming laptop. I won't be doing any particularly demanding photo/video editing or playing that many games any more resource-intensive than your average eSports game and I also have an Xbox so if I do have to get a laptop that can't game, it's not the end of the world. It does, however, have to be portable so anything bigger than about 15-inches is pretty much out of the question. In terms of budget, I'm at an ABSOLUTE maximum of about 1500-1700 but I'd really prefer to get it down to about 1000 USD.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Do you really need macOS? If yes, your choice is obvious

If no, may I know your location? Preferred max weight in kg/lbs and min battery life in hours? Any other special requirements?

I've mainly been looking at MacBooks but would be open to getting a Windows one if it's more worth it... I'm actually living in Canada (Toronto) and I'd probably want a maximum weight of about 6-8 pounds and in terms of battery, I'd definitely need it to last the whole day so at least 8-10 hours.

Thanks!

Well, The Envy X360 I have isnt that great with battery life. Usual is about 6 hours but its wild. From 2 to 12 hours. Ryzen Mobile is very wild like that :/. As for weight 4.7 pounds isnt too bad.
