external speakers not working

I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 Tiny and I'm having trouble getting my external speakers working with this mini PC. I obviously tried plugging the speakers to the 3.5mm headphone port and it's not working. I also tried playing around with the Windows 10 audio settings and that didn't work. I don't know what I'm missing. Do I need some type of splitter/converter or something?

Lenovo M900 Tiny Specs:

Front Ports : Two USB 3.0, one microphone (stereo, 3.5mm), one headphone / microphone combo jack (stereo, 3.5mm)
Rear Ports : Four USB 3.0, ethernet (RJ-45), two DisplayPort, one optional port, one headphone
Audio support : High Definition (HD) Audio, Realtek ALC223 / optional internal speaker (1 watt)

What external speakers did you buy?

Can you provide us with the brand / make / model?

If it is just a standard two-speaker set-up, the 3.5mm headphone jack should be it.

Yes, it is just a standard two-speaker set-up. I can't find the exact model but it's similar to this one.
