i'm running a 8700k oc to 4,8 GHz on an Asus rog strix z370f cooled with corsair h150i pro rgb.
The bios settings i have changed are in the attached image.
The OC passes all the tests i throw at it but randomly crashes at idle when i leave the pc on overnight.
for stress test i have used Cinebench runs 40 times (with a batch file), Aida 64 1 hour, realbench one hour, intel burn test 5 passes.
The temps are 85 max on the hottest core.
What am i missing?

Maybe the core voltages, my 8700k is stable at 4.8GHz with 1.25v on it, the board is MSI Z370 PC Pro. Different motherboard will stabilize at different voltage. Move it up/down by 0.01v till you find the sweet spot.

i actually left it at adaptive and havent input any custom value. it runs at 1.6 by default.

1.6v?!

No way! That voltage is like you are using an LN2 for the CPU cooling.

Make sure if that's the vCore voltage or other voltage. Most of 8700k will get 5GHz with 1.35v on the vCore voltage.

Might be either too low or too high. Turn it to manual and start from 1.20v then go up by 0.01v till you get the best voltage for your desired clock. GL

are the other settings in the bios Okay?

Should i bother with the DIGI+Vrm stuff in my asus mobo?

I'm still green on overclocking, I've never touched the other parameters before, except the Core clock and Core voltage. I don't have competency to answer this one.. Sorry

No I haven't overclocked my new system with D15 at 5Ghz. I will do that in near future..

But my other system with 8700K+NH-U12S with NF-F12 3000rpm fan keep the CPU at 4.8Ghz and 1.25v with 36C idle and 56C gaming, 81C max temp on RealBench. Ambient temp was around 26C. The motherboard is MSI Z370 PC Pro. It never able to go 5Ghz.

My board loads the 5gz profile, I just lower the voltage to 1.3. Haven’t messed with lowering it yet. Tend to turn the digi stuff to max on higher on my other boards but I’m still testing this system only being a week old at this point.

try these changes:

SVID > Disabled

Vccio and system agent voltage > auto

LLC > level 6

Internal cpu power management > long and short duration package > max those out=4095

cpu core voltage > manual > i would start for 4.8Ghz @ 1.265V and work from there, so if not stable move up to 1.275 etc etc. if it is stable you can try to lower the voltage untill it's not stable anymore.
