I've been looking for a high-end GPU for my separate video editing rig and it just cant keep up anymore, the rx 470 in there is overheating and continues crashing and i'm thinking of just putting either something super cheap in there or getting something that is a little bit future proof.
I also do my 3D modeling on this rig so it needs to be good for that as well.
so what would you suggest for something like that?
(budget is $600-$1,200....somewhere around there)

Why not check what's wrong with the rx470? It's a good GPU. If you don't have warranty anymore, maybe replace thermal paste?

If you do 3d modelling in a serious capacity, maybe you want a quadro or firepro for that.

And high-end and super cheap don't exactly match.

i meant i'm either going to get a super cheapo replacement till i find something good to put in or i'm just going to pony up for a high-end GPU right now
also I am probably just going to sell the 470 or give it to my brother to add to his 470 and he can do crossfire with it.

But it's overheating and crashing?

You should probably wait. AMD will have new GPUs out next year and even if they are not that good it will at least bring down Nvidias prices.

For now you can buy pretty much any used GPU that's around $200 and it will be better than what you have now. If you want to stay AMD and have enough PSU then you could get an older R9 290/390(X). That would be around $100 (due to mining cards flooding the market) and still a decent bit faster than the RX 470. Nvidia cards tend to be more expensive used (again mining). Buying a brand new GPU for cheap and then waiting for only a year or less is a bad idea because it will lose a lot of value over that time and this will only be worse if you sell when something new has just come out.

For Video Editing it depends what software you use but often the GPU is not really used much at all (other than for playing the video). If you have specific software then do mention it as some software can use the GPU. For Modeling it also depends on the program used.

Assuming that your software does use the GPU and you don't urgently need it to be faster, then you should buy a cheaper old GPU (like 390X) and then wait till next year when new pricing will actually be competitive. Also if you want to stay AMD then you will be able to pick up a 7nm GPU in a years time or so. The first 7nm Pro Compute Vega was revealed yesterday and all of AMDs new stuff will be 7nm (other than refreshes like the RX 590).

Titan Xp is the best option considering now workstation driver optimization. I had a P5000 which have recently sold. I'm currently looking into acquiring a titan Xp, it should be around $800 (I got the P5000 for 1200). The titan runs at P6000 levels (on workstation applications).
