Hi everyone, first time poster here.

A few months ago I purchased an asus fx503vm (this model to be more precise). Now I'm looking into upgrading to 16gb Ram.

Would i be able to simply purchase this 8GB stick and put it in the empty ram slot or would i have to purchase 2 matching ram sticks?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

the weird thing with ramsticks is that it sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't. with OEM's it's even harder to say. but that micron stick might be a good choise becouse it will probebly work as they are one of the biggest producers of dram

As long as they're the same frequency and size then it's fine.

On their website it says the stick is compatible with my laptop. However the big thing is that i'm not sure if it would be compatible with my current stick or not

then you're fine. if it's listed it should work, as long as you keep in mind what @Fuzzleworth1 said. or you just underclock it if needed

So in theory they should be compatible right?

do we know the existing 8GB is in the form of a single stick?? my 8gb ram laptop came with 2 4gb sticks and an MSI gaming laptop I did some upgrades to for a customer came with a single 8gb module. If you have opened it up and confirmed it has a single 8gb ram module then you are 99.9999% most likely OK to through another 8gb stick in there, i've mixed RAM half a dozen times and never had an issue. just don't buy slower ram then whats in the machine now, all ram will run at the speed of the slowest stick and there is no point to pay extra for faster ram since you would be limited by the existing ram speed anyway (and the bios most likely would also limit the ram speed on laptops).
