Change directory, retain file path

Hi

 

I have an application which does not allow me to change the install path (for some reason. So it can only be installed to C:\Program Files). It is quite large (about 40GB).

 

I have room on my C drive (which I have just installed the application on). However, I want to move it to my D drive so it doesn't take up all my SSD space.

 

Is there a way to move the directory of the program (from C drive to D drive) but retain the file path. Or somehow point the C drive directory to where I move the folder to on the D drive).

 

I know this sounds like a shortcut, but the other locations of the program don't work with shortcuts. So like some parts of the program are stored in C:\ProgramData and they don't work with shortcuts

 

I was thinking of a way to use the windows environmental variables to point the paths to my D drive but I'm not sure what to do.

 

Any ideas preferrably without 3rd party apps?

Not sure but I think just move the folder to your desired location and create a symlink in the original location.
