Hi everyone.

I'm planning on buying a HP Z400 with a Xeon E5630 in it. I'm planning to put an X5650 and a GTX 970/980/980 Ti (depending on my budget) in it, put a new PSU in it, 16GB DDR3 RAM (it already has 8GB), a Crucial MX500 250GB SSD and a 2TB Seagate HDD. Would it be worth doing or not?

I'm going to use the PC for FL Studio, games such as: Forza Horizon 3 and 4, GTA V, Assetto Corsa, Fallout 4, Garry's Mod (with 680+ mods), ATS and ETS2 (with about 50-100 mods each) and general day to day usage (e.g. WhatsApp, web browsing, YouTube, etc).

Thanks. :)

That chip only turbos to 3.06 ghz... so you will see some bottlenecking at 1080p in some of those games. That being said you should still have a good experience.

Okay thanks.. Is there any way I could get rid of that bottleneck? I've only got a £300-400 budget so I can't afford to build a Ryzen system.

You could always try to overclock it via the BLK. So just good your chip and overclocking and you should find some nice guides for it. Not sure how high you can get it, but you should probably be able to get close to 4ghz with a decent cooler.

Looking at the bottlenecker (not 100% accurate) it is saying that chip clocked at about 3.9ghz would be a 13% bottle neck for the 980ti. 13% isn't terrible.   So instead of getting say 100fps in a game you would get 87 fps.

87fps sounds great. I think this will be a successful rig.

I am just giving an example, not that you will get that fps lol.  Also if you get a 980 instead of a 980ti... it would be a 13% bottleneck at stock clocks.. so with an overclock you could get rid of the bottleneck.

Either way you should be able to have a good gaming experience.

Yeah, I understand its just an estimate. It'll be a good gaming experience though, which is all that matters to me.
