I have play on desk media I would like to get an old computer to use as a media server but I’m not sure what specs I should have to do this if you have any suggestions of all computers that I can put a bigger car driving I would  Like to thank you  in advance

most old pc's can work as a media server, just install some kind of a server distro on it and get some harddrives in it. use that and you'll be fine

I have playon desktop media server And currently I’m using my 8 TB external hard drive but I know that probably not the best idea to use it I’m not sure what do you think?

An external hard drive is not a server. Don't think anyone in here will think much about that.

Old hardware can be many things.. Like all the way from 1990, perhaps 2000? If you are just a little more specific on what hardware you have, or are looking to get we can help alot better

have to agree with @AbsoluteFool tho, with the hardware you use, We can recommend you a specific distro and maybe upgrades for your system.
