The load (weight) of the application is using a higher load on your ram so your ram has to perform more work, it's utilizing more for those applications regardless of the application size?

I'm not sure why this would happen.

Edit: At a second look, do all your processes equate to the 6.xgb being used? Then there's your answer. But correct me if im wrong... are all other processes from windows? Windows takes up usually 1.3-1.5gb of memory.

Usually when you see a darker highlighted application (orange vs yellow) it means it's utilizing more than the application says because of the weight of the processes as it runs.

It could mean there's something wrong with the app.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

It could also mean your ram isn't working properly, or it could be a virus of some sort.

So these are your options:

A) reinstall app

B) turn off computer fully, unplug. Press and hold power button to drain any extra power. Remove ram, reinsert ram.

C) the above + scan computer for viruses

D) reset your pc to manufacture settings and wipe the drive

E) buy new ram

Extra: you can also reset your mobos bios/ by resetting the CMOS. Turn computer off fully and remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard for a minute and place it back in. This may affect how your computer (mobo) uses ram. Though I'm not 100% certain so don't take my word on this part
