So I've recently upgraded my dad's computer with a new SSD to make things a little more snappy for him. However, in the 2-3 months since I made the switch, he has complained to me 3-4 times about the system being even slower than it was before. After the first complaint, I doubled checked that the drive was set ACHI and it was. I checked to see if Trim was on and it was. I switched the power mode to high performance and then told him if it gets slow again, try restarting. This seemed to work for a month or so. The next time he complained to me, I looked into what might have been hogging resources. They amount used when I checked were seemingly normal with Ram below 40% and CPU usage down below 20% with only a few tabs open on Firefox. I checked to see that too many programs were starting along with windows and that seemed alright. I reduced how often Bit Defender checked for updates to every 6 hours, since it was checking every hour. Then it seemed alright for another couple of weeks. Now he claims he will play one game of 8 ball pool on Facebook's gameroom and then it will get sluggish and slow again. He only uses the computer for playing pool, card games, browsing the web, email, and netflix/online video. The system when it's running nomrally runs faster with the SSD, but when it slows down, it's even slower than the old mechanical hard drive was. I'm at a loss. I've never had this many issues upgrading any system to an SSD and I've done this to half a dozen systems now. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

You said RAM usage is below 40% when this happens, is this the amount that is in use or the amount that is in use, modified, and in standby added up? What I've found is that the amount of RAM in use doesn't really matter, how much RAM you have that is labeled as free is what matters. For example right now of the 32GB of RAM I have installed 7916MB is in use, but only 12106MB is free, the extra 12502MB is modified or in standby. When my free RAM would get down to a couple hundred MB I experienced massive slow downs, this was my reason for upgrading to 32GB, with 16GB I experienced these slow downs fairly often despite never having anywhere near the full 16GB labeled as being in use.

It was a fresh install, not cloned.

I don't recall with the ram. All I know is when I got around to check things out I didn't see a lot of ram usage. Typically he isn't using a lot of ram for what he does (browsing with only a couple of tabs or watching netflix or playing that flash based pool game mostly).

So I got more of a chance to check out my dad's system when it was experiencing problems. My dad's original explanation wasn't all that complete. The system isn't slowing down, it's only Facebook Gameroom. The rest of the system is alright during the whole process. So I'm guessing it's either an issue with the gameroom software itself or flash player. So if anyone knows about that let me know, if not I'll try a couple of solutions that I've Googled in the meantime.

Thanks for the original responses.
