RAM upgrade (spec matching)

Go to solution Solved by Vasllo,

The 3000MHz RAM would just underclock to 2666MHz, while with the other kit, you current one would probably increase it's timing to CL16. If the 3000MHz is the same price and looks as good to you, go with it, otherwise, you can probably tighten the other kit's timing to CL15 as well.

Hello there, so I wanted to add some RAM to the my PC and discovered that it's not possible to buy same stick as I have at the moment.

I know that it's better to have exactly same specs but in case if it's not possible is it better to go with same frequency or timing?

Right now I have DDR4 8 GB 2666 MHz 15 CL and I'm thinking whether I should go for 2666 MHz 16CL or 3000 MHz 15CL

Thanks!

What's your budget? You'd probably be better getting a new set of 16 especially if you want faster speeds (3200 etc) and you like aesthetics

I don't really feel need for faster ram but could use additional amount. And don't really care about aesthetics, it's nicely hidden in my R5 without any windows.

Well then you'll have to get another dim with the exact same speed, if you get a dim that's 3000mhz typically (if their specs align) your motherboard will underclock it to match the slower dim

3000 is 9 euros more expensive. But from what I read, I also tend to think that it might be a better option.

Well, if you care about the 9 euros, you can very likely make the other one work at CL15, and in the worst case, you just go to CL16, but the 3000MHz is indeed the best option.
