Second GPU Folding While First GPU is Not

UPDATE with my fix:

-Uninstall Nvidia drivers.

-Disconnect the 980.

-Boot with the display connected to the 1080Ti still in the 2nd x16 slot.

-Install Nvidia drivers.

-Shutdown.

-Reinstall the 980 back onto the 1st x16 slot.

-Boot up, and restart till it works.

 

Windows and HWMonitor are also detecting them both now!

 

Folding significantly more now!

UPDATE Feb. 12, 2019:

Had to do this again when I changed cases, but it looks like the method above didn't work. Below is what I had to do this time around.

1. Delete 980 drivers, then shutdown.

2. Uninstall 980.

3. Install 1080Ti into FIRST x16 slot.

4. Install drivers.

5. Shutdown, and move 1080Ti to SECOND x16 slot.

6. Install 980 into FIRST x16 slot, connecting DP cable to it. Check Display Adapters under Device Manager, the 1080Ti should show up.

7. Install the drivers to the 980, then restart.

8. Verify in Device Manager, HW Monitor, Task Manager, etc. that both GPUs show up.

So I installed my 1080Ti in the second 16x slot because my first GPU, 980 Hydrocopper, is in a single loop with the CPU, Ryzen 1700, I didn't bother moving it. My problem now is that Windows is not detecting the card in the Task Manager, Device Manager, and even HWMonitor. The Folding Client on the other hand detects it but I can't seem to figure out how to set it so that both GPUs are folding independently. I did set it so that only 8 threads of the 1700 is folding so that I can still use it.

PC Specs in case it's needed:

CPU: Ryzen 1700

GPU 1st slot: EVGA 980 Hydrocopper

GPU 2nd slot: EVGA 1080Ti FTW3

PSU: Corsair RM850x

Well, this only shows that you have 1 video card setup in f@h - go to Configure > Add > GPU

Whoops, I guess I completely disregarded the instructions for multiple GPU folding

Does it usually take a while for it to start running?

 

My other issue still exists though; I still can't monitor the 1080Ti in either Windows Manager or HWMonitor.

It usually take roughly 60 seconds to start, it has to download a new "packet" to work with. As for why it doesnt show up in Windows, good question, I wish I had an answer for you.

It's interesting that it's attempting to run for about 10 mins now but it just keeps attempting. I'll just wait and see if it will eventually run.

Also I don't use CPU folding, it doesn't seem too efficient to me, not enough credit for the length of time it takes.

Generally Work Queue only has in it what is currently being folded, I dont know why you have 5, when you only have 3 active folding "devices"

Only thing I could suggest trying, go into configure and remove all folding devices, click save and then re-add them.

That is my fault. I was trying to figure out how to configure the second GPU earlier but didn't notice that there were selection bubbles on the left hand side to choose between CPU and GPU; I kept adding a new CPU :P

Update:

I restarted my computer. The 980 is working now but the 1080Ti seems to just be constantly attempting runs.

Still can't detect the 1080Ti in other software. Maybe some correlation there with why it's not running?

General question: Nvidia driver up to date and SLI or anything like this turned of?

I don't think I did. So should I change the 'gpu-index' to 0 and 1 based on the slot?

Driver's are up to date. Nvidia control panel does not recognize the 1080Ti either so not SLI :(

Update: 

Changed 'opencl-index' to 3 since the 1080Ti is in the 2nd 16x slot; it's working now.

Is there a display connected to the 1080Ti? Sometimes windows behaves quite funny with cards wich have no display connected

No display connected to it. I did try plugging it in to a display to make sure but no output.

yes not output is ok, since windows first tries to speak with the highest tier GPU (oftenthe one closest to the CPU socket). You have to have a display connected to both cards. Try to connect your monitor to both (with different cables eg. HDMI for GPU1 and Dsplprt for GPU 2) but switch the monitor to display GPU 1. That is what worked for me. there are even "dummy display cables" for such purposes.

UPDATE with my fix:

-Uninstall Nvidia drivers.

-Disconnect the 980.

-Boot with the display connected to the 1080Ti still in the 2nd x16 slot.

-Install Nvidia drivers.

-Shutdown.

-Reinstall the 980 back onto the 1st x16 slot.

-Boot up, and restart till it works.

 

Windows and HWMonitor are also detecting them both now!

 

Folding significantly more now!

UPDATE Feb. 12, 2019:

Had to do this again when I changed cases, but it looks like the method above didn't work. Below is what I had to do this time around.

1. Delete 980 drivers, then shutdown.

2. Uninstall 980.

3. Install 1080Ti into FIRST x16 slot.

4. Install drivers.

5. Shutdown, and move 1080Ti to SECOND x16 slot.

6. Install 980 into FIRST x16 slot, connecting DP cable to it. Check Display Adapters under Device Manager, the 1080Ti should show up.

7. Install the drivers to the 980, then restart.

8. Verify in Device Manager, HW Monitor, Task Manager, etc. that both GPUs show up.
