Keeping OS install while upgrading CPU/Mobo?

Possibly the wrong place for this, my apologies if so.

I am planning on upgrading my current i5 CPU to a more updated version, which obviously means i need a new socket motherboard.

I have Windows 10 installed on an SSD, which i upgraded from Windows 7 2+ years ago.

I would like to keep my current installation of windows exactly as it is in the new system but i have only found one website outlining how this would be done. Upgrade your motherboard without reinstalling Windows 10

How reliable is this procedure and is there anything that could go wrong during this process.

That procedure should work just fine, however I recommend doing a clean install of Windows 10 onto your SSD.

None. It's common myth that you must made clean install every major hardware change. But in fact you can use existing installation and it will be as good as "clean". I made this many times and believe me and my experience - installing the same Windows again has no sense. Just plug your SSD to new motherboard and make sure that you linked your local account with Microsoft account before. That's all.
