So I just got a card from someone (the card looks untouched) but when I put it in my pc it didn't post anything but when I restart the pc it will post but it will sometimes shut off or it will take me to the windows blue repair screen and if I stay there it won't turn off. It's a gtx 970 and I've been using one in my pc so it has the drivers already

Since you got the card from someone else, obviously the card is used and that's okay.  Maybe all it needs is a cleaning and a fresh dab of paste on the heatsink.  Remove the card from your machine, pull the heatsink off of it, clean the heatsink and the gpu and then put a fresh bit of paste on it and put it back together.  Maybe a new fan would help too.

But the owner before me just installed it a few months ago and he just played games with it.

If you can get the machine to boot, try this.

Using System File Checker in Windows 10

System File Checker is a utility in Windows 10 that checks for system file corruption. It's recommended for advanced users. To run it:

  • In the search box on the taskbar, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.
  • Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the space before each "/"). (Note: This step may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to run and complete.)
  • Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

I run this about once ever other month just to keep things straight in my system.  Maybe it can help you too.
