HI All

My system is:

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard

Processor    AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor, 3800 Mhz,

Socket AM3+ (942)

BIOS Version/Date    American Megatrends Inc. 2603, 26/06/2015

CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600  - times 2

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (GP107) @ 1417 MHz

Microsoft Windows 10 (10.0) Professional 64-bit

Built my System a while back, and I have been having issues with my ram or maybe it's me.

I had brought 16gb of RAM at the, so I had brought CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 for both my DIMM slots.

but on my system, it shows up as only 8gb showing up?

image.png.36b53546a4e5e49d663ff53c721c9ab6.png

I have updated my BIOS to the latest one, and nothing has changed.

I did also send the manufacturer (ASUS) an email about the motherboard  (it's out of warranty) but they can't help me or give me any solutions what so ever.

(i have not sent Corsair an email as of yet)

But I on the BIOS and the OS it shows the physical memory installed as

Slot #1 Module    Corsair 4096 MB (DDR3-1337) - XMP 1.2 - P/N: CMX8GX3M2A1600C9
Slot #2 Module    Corsair 4096 MB (DDR3-1337) - XMP 1.2 - P/N: CMX8GX3M2A1600C9

Total Size    8192 MB

any ideas?

maybe it's me, but it's on each module its says 8gb (2x4gb).

so i should have 16gb showing up ?

No.  That label is because its a kit.  8gb is the total capacity of the kit, because it includes 2x 4gb modules.

This is not true.  If you install it into a single channel setup with two slots (which does exist for DDR3) its not dual channel.

I mean you are wrong, but sure.  Its literally called the Corsair XMS3 DUAL CHANNEL kit.  Its meant to be sold as, and installed as (to meet its performance charts I am sure) DUAL channel.

Are you trying to say, or prove, that it can run single channel, that individually these are capable of single channel sticks?  I mean...duh?  Its not just a thing for DDR3 lol.  When DDR4 prices were dumb I bought a single, DUAL CHANNEL stick, to get my new rig to boot and once the prices leveled I bought the second, single, DUAL CHANNEL stick to compliment it correctly.

What are you even saying here?

There is not a single module that is dual channel, all memory modules are the same (generally speaking) and can be used in any configuration of channels.  You can buy them in packs that generally correspond to the number of channels in contemporary systems, but that is it.  For dual/triple/quad channel you just need modules with the same timings.

Now you just sound uninformed.

So you challenged my post - I called it a Dual Channel Kit.  WTF else is it bruh?  Because...It is.  Regardless of how you want to interpret it lol.  I mean, Amazon, Newegg, Corsair call it a DUAL CHANNEL kit.  Maybe you think I am specifying that it makes it special.  I am trying to inform the OP that its 8gb provided over DUAL CHANNELS.

But alas, this has taken more time of mine than I care.  You sound like you just want to challenge something.

You mean two modules.  Memory is not aware of the number of memory buses in a system.  It is sold in a kit that is intended for dual channel, but can be used in a way that is not dual channel.  In the same way that a kit intended for quad channel can be used in a dual channel system that has two slots per bus.

Hahaha, they got DDR, and Dual channel confused.

I agree it's POOR marketing/labelling though, it should read "One of 4GB. Total 8GB kit, 2x4." I got annoyed at how many ebay sellers do this wrong, and got 6gb turn up one day labelled as "24GB". Lol, posted that back ASAP.

So by all means, I should have used the word MODULE at the end there.

Its 8 gb provided over 2 DUAL CHANNEL Slots provided by 2 x 4 GB Ram Modules - does that make this feel so much better?  Im sure OP here has an high enough understanding of RAM that he has to ask this sort of question to begin with so we should convolute it as much as possible.  Muh bad.

Dual channel kits or boxes of RAM sticks exist. Labels show barcodes and names. The Razor Laptop does not shave beards. :)

PS, you also, multiple times, said your DDR4 single stick is a "dual channel stick", it is not. It is dual channel compatible (all are, but they will list it on some boxes).

Your not totally wrong, you're just saying "my car is an alloy wheeled engine". It has an engine, it has alloy wheels, but the engine is not an alloy wheeled engine. XD

Like I said, sorry for not saying it perfectly - I am shadetree mechanic here.  But I know more than the OP, and I put it in terms he may understand.  That's 100% fine with me.  Glad I have a better, cleaner, understanding of the verbage I should use.

However when my wife asks me what I am doing under the hood of my car, or in the PC case - I don't explain it to her in technical terms, nor do I care much if she completely understands - as long as she gets the info she wants and moves on.  Like OP was looking to do.  So Im still okay with what I said.

OP already got 2 digits muddled on the label. They need specifics, not more error. We are working as a group to correct error. Why fight against that?

"To better understand" does not mean we don't give exact information. We then need to say "you have two 4gb sticks, totallying 8gb".

DDR 4 can be run in single, dual or quad channel IIRC. So, no, it's not a "dual channel" stick, it's a single/dual/quad channel setup or "kit/box/pack".
