Operating system transfer

Hello everyone, I need some help.

 

I just bought a Samsung 860 Evo sata internal SSD, and currently only have an HDD installed in my desktop. Now what i want to do is transfer the OS to the SDD to speed up the computer and all that good stuff and move some things like games and such onto it to speed up the game loading times and all that fun stuff. But the major problem of course is trying to get the OS from the HDD to the SSD, if their a way to move the files over and have the bootup processes and OS on the SSD or do i have to get a new OS and reinstall it or what. Im just very confused as to what to do at this juncture and would appreciate any and all help. I dont wanna brick my computer so i appreciate the veteran advice!

Are the drives the same size? You can use a program such as EaseUS to clone the boot drive.

my HDD is 1Tb and the SSD is 500Gb, but would that matter if all i want to move over is the OS?

What I did was I set up windows on the new ssd, have the old hdd as a connected drive, then transfer the files directly from the old hdd then once you have all your files transferred you can use your old hdd as mass storage if you reformat it.
