New CPU needed

I currently have 2700X but I kinda sold it. (Long story)

 

I have £1750 to buy a CPU. I was thinking of buying the new 8 core from Intel but it's overpriced and for £1100 I can get 7980XE.

 

I am also considering 2nd gen Threadripper 16 core.

 

Since everyone will ask "what you'll be using it for"....

Productivity and gaming.

 

Which option makes most sense?

I wanted 9900k but PCI-E lanes are limited to 16 so it sucks It's also 14nm but it is soldered.

 

Threadripper can be had for just £150 more, or 1st gen for less actually than 9900k.

 

Or one of the i9 CPUs like 12 to 16 cores. I also know I'll need mothrrboard like X299 EVGA Dark.
