Intel optain with m.2?

Hi I'm new kinda new to building computers and with the new technologies that have came out made me want to start a new build. But I know intel optain is for mechanical drives maybe ssd in some cases. But wasnt particularly looking to get optain drive. But some motherboards I'm looking at come with an optain drive for free for a bit more money. Sorry though a backstory world help with my questions.

My questions 

1 can I even use the optain drive with a Samsung 970 m.2? 

2 if it can work will the optain drive essentially be taking a load off my m.2 so it won't have to work so much.

 

Also if I posted this in the wrong place can someone tell me where I could post questions please. Thank you in advance.

No optane can't cache nvme ssds. It would be kinda useless if they could since there'd be little to no benefit.

If it is free somehow then you could just grab one but usually you're best off spending the money on a larger sata ssd and if you want you can use part of it for caching with intel rst.

There are CPUs with bundled optane, look for i7+ or i5+ branding. Getting an optane drive makes sense of you get a hard drive anyway since a good gaming rig has both a high capacity hard drive and an SSD (of course a really good gaming PC has stupidly expensive high capacity SSDs)

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

 

Primary PC:

I'd personally choose a sata ssd then. Usually you can get a 250gb ssd for a similar price. Using 60gb or whatever for caching leaves a bunch of space for whatever. Much more worth it IMO

Well I already have the m.2 drive. It's a Samsung 970 1tb. I'm decided not to get an optain stick until I build a pc with my daughter and give her my old ssds

Ah gotcha :D. Unless you get it for super cheap though I'd recommend just getting a 120gb or 240gb SATA SSD and use part of it for caching, so you can speed up the HDD but still have really fast boot up and apps and stuff.
