I just read about SATA SSD drives slowing down when filling them up / running out of space.

I was wondering if the same applies to NVMe or not, and if it does, would it be dramatically slower or barely noticeable?

Thank you

idk about this but i do know the lower capacity there is a performance decrease, uptill you get a 500+gb ssd

but still my 125gb nvme SSD is like 116gb full and i dont notice any slowdowns at all if that helps

Thank you! it does help

I plan on getting a small SSD for the OS and Programs, it sounds like NVMe would do if it doesn't slow down noticeably when near full

Yes, all SSDs reduce performance when they get very full (90% +) but you probably won't notice it, it only really affects the writes and not so much the reads. It will also affect the longevity of the drive if it is constantly 90%+ full because there are less free cells for the SSD to automatically "load balance".

PC:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X | AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE | 32 GB RAM | Arch Linux

Laptop:

MacBook Pro 13" (2019) | Intel Core i5 8279U | 8 GB RAM | macOS

Server:

Intel Core i7 6700K | 16 GB RAM | 2 TB HDD | Debian Linux
