What GPU should I get

Hello guys I know that this is a simple question but I have the budget for a 2080 but I am not sure if I should buy one. I am planning on a big upgrade after 1 or 2 months and I won't upgrade for another 4 years probably. At the moment I am running a 1080p monitor at 144hz and I am wondering if the 2080 is too overkill and if it is can I max out AAA games on 1440p and get stable 144 FPS(I am planning to upgrade my monitor after ~2 years).I am gonna pair the GPU with an Intel i7 or i9 9th gen so it should be easy to hit 144fps at 1080p

Might as well get 1080ti. Same performance as 2080 when HDR and DLSS (only available on or above 1440p) isnt used and its raytracing and DLSS abilities are unproven.

Depends on how big the price difference between the 1080ti and 2080 is. If it's not much, get the 2080, else 1080ti.

I personally would be heavily leaning towards a used 1080ti in your situation as websites, such as eBay and Craigslist, are filled with people trying to offload them as they seek to purchase a card from the new series.
