VPN Namespaces question

I am trying to determine if using this mechanism works in the way I hope it works. From what I have read, this is a way to tunnel specific application traffic through a vpn connection. My question is, does this set up a vpn connection as one would normally expect, is or it more like a ssh tunnel?

 

The reason this matters for my application, I want a way to send data to a server on a different network, but I don’t inherently trust the other network. Thus... a normal VPN wouldn’t work. Also, I need access to both my LAN’s resources and the remote resources, so an outright system wide VPN wouldn’t work anyways.

 

Basically, any information on how vpn namespace split tunneling works would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, what you want is to configure "split tunneling". How to configure it depends on which VPN client you're using, and what traffic you want to go over which connection.

Right. But my main question is vpn split tunneling doesn’t act as a “normal” VPN correct? My server doesn’t end up on the remote network’s LAN, exposed to whatever security issues it may have. Correct?

I'd imagine it depends what interface your servers are listening on.  If you specifically set them up to listen on the LAN then they shouldn't bind to the VPN interface at all.
